Sir Ed Davey - Lib. Dem Leader

Good result for them though even if all Davey can come up with is something about a hammer.
It is good. Am not sure it translates into GE success unless both main parties sit on their hands... But that looks to be all they're doing at the moment. There is not a single party I could vote for right now. And I'm not sure that will change inside 2yrs.
Depends how you define success.
They're never going to win a GE so to my mind success for them is enough GE seats to make a difference and possibly enough to be in a position to be kingmaker similar to in 2010.
I doubt you're going to see a "Why Ed Davey must be our next Prime Minister" election campaign.

.
Except the 2010 election made their brand toxic for 10 years. .
Voters only like politicians if they're not in power. The last thing the lib Dems need is power or influence. Which raises a question...

In 2010 they wouldn't fit all the Lib Dem MPs on a coach. Even with last night's bonus ball they couldn't fill a minibus today.Voters only like politicians if they're not in power. The last thing the lib Dems need is power or influence. Which raises a question...
I think they'd be mad to repeat 2010, however much they'd try and reframe any arrangement, but stranger things have happened.
No one knows who they are or what their policies or principles are. Even their own members.
What they are for many people is a place to park their vote when they can't stomach voting for their usual choice and definitely can't stomach voting for the 'other side', so they go for what they see as a safe, beige, inert, middle of the road option to register their distaste and protest.
I think people are misguided thinking the Lib Dems are safe or middle of the road as they're more like where all the extreme st from the other two options rolls to, but they definitely still seem like they get votes on occasion but don't have much real support.
Yay they got a big swing and another MP. But does it really mean anything as a trend?

I think all the Lib Dem people should receive a personal message from Mr Davey.
Something like go back to your seats and prepare for government
It will inspire them
Anyone in the Tv area on the Libdem list will receive a message of thanks more likely. I got one when they took over my local town council, and all I did was join their mailing list and ask a couple of questions pre-voting. They run a clever little, and locals are little, procedure. Winning is not enough. They consider the next elections and try to influence the locals by, and a dirty trick this, providing things they want.Something like go back to your seats and prepare for government

True but right now Johnson's brand is more toxic.Voters only like politicians if they're not in power. The last thing the lib Dems need is power or influence. Which raises a question...
I have no idea how that plays out in a GE or in other constituencies but last night was a damned fine result whatever the reasons.

You can't honestly believe that, surely?Seems to be doing a good job tbh . He’s not a miracle worker and can only win the battles he comes up against
Seems to be playing a long game as well
Saw him interviewed and , waffled a bit then made some interesting points to me
I’m not sure id vote Lib Dem , but credit where credit is Due he seems to be doing a decent job

Do they communicate who they are effectively? No.What they are for many people is a place to park their vote when they can't stomach voting for their usual choice and definitely can't stomach voting for the 'other side', so they go for what they see as a safe, beige, inert, middle of the road option to register their distaste and protest.

Are they in anyway "extreme"? No. That's just daft.
Their core principles are individual liberty while collectively exercising social responsibility. That is more complicated to convey than the other party's "up the workers, fk the bosses" or "I'm alright, Jack".

They always seems bit worthy, sort of hand wringing, think they know what’s best for everyone, leather patches on elbows, public sector…What they are for many people is a place to park their vote when they can't stomach voting for their usual choice and definitely can't stomach voting for the 'other side', so they go for what they see as a safe, beige, inert, middle of the road option to register their distaste and protest.

Indeed.Nuance is very, very difficult to communicate.
Many people do agree with Lib Dem ideals, but the UK political system leads to people voting along the lines you describe above.
