Impression I got was that middle class women love to waste their money here?
Apparently my wife is middle class then, I don't know how to feel about this hehe

Its very much an impulse place for her though, normally the one in Waterloo while I grab a pasty or somesuch

I have a huge amount of respect for Oliver Bonas as our local shop once accused my wife of shop lifting...they must have a big set of plums to do that.

My wife and her friends certainly like to. I called in to my local one just before Christmas and it was as busy as it could be.

Indeed!
The last set of accounts show the retailer making a loss of £11m on sales of £125m in the year to February 2019.
So they were in a fair amount of trouble anyway as this was pre-COVID.

Yeah, but nothing to write home about. To be frank(ed) it's nothing of note.

Boots and separated form their wholesale arm. Quite interesting as they move from quite a heavyweight in the pharmaceutical industry to a retailer. They are safe for now soaking up Debenhams beauty sales.

They have sold it to a bigger company, and according to the article Walgreens (but not Walgreen Boots) own 30% of this bigger company and have a seat on the board.

So Walgreens considered it a good idea for a company, in which they are the biggest shareholder, to buy something from another company, in which they are also the biggest owner.

I can't see pubs re-opening before April, so unless the support package is improved I image a lot of people will throw in the towel and re-assess once some semblance of normality returns.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned but Thomas Pink the shirt maker has closed down.

It was already heavily loss making and the change in people’s buying habits due to COVID can’t have helped.

I really aspired to Pink shirts in the 90s and I think I owned one but haven’t shopped there this century.

Seems like TM Lewin did the right thing by moving to online only back in June. Believe it was driven more by their financial state than insightful foresight, but may still work to their advantage. I'm sure they'll have no issue picking up some city centre locations if the miracle vaccine means we're all back in offices later in the year.

Poundland "Hibernating 44 stores"
I'm sure some on here will scoff and disregard Poundland as a retailer
Personally I use them regularly their Parceltape and jiffy bags are as useable as other stores and whereelse can I pick up a cat 5e ethernet cable for a £1
Some stores will perhaps be in towns where they have more than one anyway. Remember they acquired some rival shops a couple of years ago

Does hibernating = won't pay the rent?
