Depends on your age. Under 50, reasonable case for Pfizer. Under 40 pretty bloody good case. Over 50 - irrelevant.

The flu vaccine is about £15 a shot, give or take, and is a one time thing. Obviously, the take up is significantly lower, hence the annual profits from the flu vaccine are more modest. So the Covid vaccines are commensurate, but don't forget the Pfizer (and ModeRNA IIRC) one needs to be stored in a cold chain at -80C, so the energy and logistics costs are significantly higher on top of the actual jab itself.
From memory the NHS pays about £10 for each flu vaccine jab done to providers. A private individual getting it would be paying a bit more as per £14-15.

I am not convinced deaths in 2021 are likely to surpass 2020.

Excess deaths in England and Wales during 2020 stand at 66,125, which represents a 12% increase compared to the 5 year average. As of week 39 in 2021 we are at 31,530 excess deaths, which is just under 8% above average.
ONS have 2020 excess deaths at 75845 and 14.3%

A new graph for a new volume

Cases per 100k tests and Deaths within 28 Days have been running at higher levels in summer 2021 than they did last year. Because of Delta and the 'exit wave' triggered by the removal of all domestic restrictions (at least in England).

However, we have now reached the point where seasonality began to drive growth in 2020

The dotted lines are 2020 and the solid ones are 2021. Right now 2020 looks worse. The big question is what happens next:

Hopefully the vaccination program and exposure of the unvaccinated has done enough to keep us the right side of the 2020 line - I expect some creep upwards but I would be surprised to see the media using that "exponential" word this year
This is the same graph, but with raw case numbers and no correction for testing volume.

The level of cases we are seeing now is similar to Mid Dec 2020, but at that time we were seeing 9 times more deaths.

It's more commonly known in internet culture as "don't feed the trolls".

It's not a lefty cancel culture thing as you may suggest.

YouTube removed Davis’ speech, filmed at a conference fringe event held by Big Brother Watch, for violating its policy on “medical misinformation” but did not specify what content had breached the rules. In a notification email to Big Brother Watch, the platform said: “YouTube doesn’t allow claims about COVID-19 vaccinations that contradict expert consensus from local health authorities or the World Health Organization (WHO).”

75845 excess deaths in 2021? Exactly where are you seeing that on the ONS numbers?

Yes I appreciate that, but we've seen extremely high hospital and death rates over this summer, 10x higher than this time last year. That's what worries me, perhaps irrationally. Extrapolating out to expect winter to be worse, as it normally is, I think we could surpass last year.

I'm talking all cause death, I don't really take much notice of Covid figures now, it's largely irrelevant.

Apologies my mistype 2020,
You had me totally confused for a moment.

The number I quoted for 2020 was population adjusted and for England and Wales only. Without the adjustment it comes to 72k on my numbers.

Its not hugely pertinent though as the point of my post was mainly to compare 2021 with 2020.

The excess we are seeing now is a worry, but its substantially offset by the extended period of lower than normal deaths we saw earlier in the year.

Deaths will go up as we go into the winter, but thats the time when we expect that to happen. I think it is pretty certain that deaths will be higher than previous years because COVID isn't going anywhere and the enormity of the lockdown impact on wider healthcare is going to start to bite.

Yes thanks. Not exactly controversial is it? Same as has been said on here many times by many many posters. Good that an MP can be heard to say the vax passports are illogical. Hope.

So, basically, I was right. Shortages and inflation are real, so the economy isn't some sunny uplands the way you intimated.

Thanks for confirming.
My pleasure, I intimated, implied no such thing with regard to the economy so your inference is incorrect. The word i used was recovering and you cannot deny that employment is holding up well. Is circa 4.5% wage increase especially for low paid workers a bad thing?
Your lack of comprehension is legendary

I have to take a Day 8 returning home PCR test tomorrow.

Does Robinson's juice actually give a positive result?

I could do with a lab confirmed case for some travel coming up in December!

Volume 15..Damn!

I remember the first volume. I had been lurking on Twitter, seeing all this mad stuff coming from China about some new disease. People falling down, apparently dead, people being locked in their apartments...was truly scary stuff.

I waited with anticipation, I knew a thread would appear on pistonheads, it wasn't long till i was rewarded for my patience. I also knew the breadth and depth of knowledge on pistonheads would potentially help me and mines keep abreast of what was happening, and probably how help to mitigate some of what was to come.

I can't remember who, but someone posted a link to a Dr.John Campbell video (I think) within that video, he suggested vitamin C, D, and Zinc on alternative days to help. There appeared to be some compelling information with regards to vitamin D in particular if I remember rightly. This has never seemed to garner the the attention and importance with witch he regarded it at the time.

I'm quite poor, but had been trying to put a little away the time to help me get a car. After watching Dr. Johns video, I used the money i had to buy said vitamins and gave to my family and friends. I'm glad to say that pretty much everyone I gave them to remained healthy and didn't catch Covid, at least to the best of my knowledge. I still take them everyday.

This post is pretty redundant in the current narrative of this thread, but this thread has helpded many, of which I and family are some. No doubt there has been countless other lurkers who the informative posts upon here have helped too.

I just thought I'd post this to let others know, that through the bickering and squabbling and fierce opposition from both sides, there was gold found in these hills, thanks everyone!

I'm yet to see a conspiracy loon explain what it is about. Care to enlighten us?
So everyone who doesn't support your narrow, blinkered view of the world is a loon? Nice.
Those who resort to pejorative epithets do so because they are incapable of reasoned debate and have nothing of substance to offer.
