Students compare themselves to starving Ethiopians
Discussion
What annoys me is the constant whining of "the poor won't be able to afford 7/9k a year"
FFS
It's not being charged at the start of your degree by some bloke in a black bomber jacket on the door....it will be lent to you...a LOAN....which you pay back once you've GRADUATED and are EARNING OVER £21k....
Grrrr, gretins.

I reckon these students are all selfless heroes, determined to stand up for their right to help their fellow man.
Let's look at the proposal: They borrow the amount they need, pay it back as and when they can afford it, and anything not paid off after 30 years gets forgotten.
But the students don't like this. Instead, they want their fees to be paid through taxation. Which means that once they graduate, they'll be paying higher taxes. Not for just their own expenses, but for everyone else's too. With no time limit, and with an ongoing exposure to rising tuition fees in future.
So rather than pay back a fixed amount that they are solely in control of, and which has a limtied liability, they would rather make an open-ended commitment with complete exposure to financial risks over which they have no control.
Bravo to them, I say!
...or could it be that the poor saps are too stupid to work this one out for themselves?
Very good. I may well pass this description off as my own in the future Let's look at the proposal: They borrow the amount they need, pay it back as and when they can afford it, and anything not paid off after 30 years gets forgotten.

I wonder why the meeja isn't picking up on this? Everyone I know seems to be talking about how stupid these students, (and presumably their tutors), have been. Or with the left-wing leanings of the BBC is that a silly question? The fact that they're now deleting comments that question their taste is obviously their internet equivalent of sticking their fingers in their ears and shouting, "lalala I'm not listening", when others try to question their views.

I hate your average socialist hippie student as much as the next sane man (and I'm speaking as a current student).
However, it does amuse me that the average poster on here seems to think all students these days are free loaders who want the moon on a stick. Conveniently forgetting that it was your generation who got us into this situation. The only reason we're in this mess is because your generation voted in a bunch of inept socialists, spunked a load of money up the wall which you didn't have and in doing so, increased the tax burden and cost of education for my generation. That doesn't look like changing for the foreseeable future. I know I'm tarring everyone with the same brush, but since all students are apparently doppelgängers, it seems only fair.
Contrary to popular belief, most of us aren't bothered about the pending fee increases. The degree increases our earning potential, so paying for it seems reasonable. The loan still covers the full tuition fee and is de-facto risk free.
However, what does irk slightly is the fact that you guys screw up a perfectly decent country and education system, then have the testicular fortitude to moan at us for being pissed about it? It's got to the point where people who graduate in the coming years face a massive student debt and (should they have the audacity to do well in life) a massive tax burden to fund the staggering pension shortfall and national debt you lot created. Paying for higher education ourselves? Not particularly annoying. Paying for higher education ourselves and then facing a lifetime of massive national debt and massive personal taxation as a result of the previous generation's mistakes? Quite annoying.
....isn't playing devil's advocate fun...

wkers! They've removed nearly all the comments, and new ones require "Approval". Bravo for democracy!
They have also removed the comments that had the most approval. Funny, they had no objection while they were being told what a great job they were doing. It looks like they want the public to pay for their education, but aren't interested in public opinion. Classy...

Oh I forgot, you're happy to take the well paid jobs...
Those well paid jobs which are now taxed at an effective rate vastly in excess of 50%, which you need us to take to raise enough tax revenue to start paying off the vast national debt you accrued?Sorry, personally I don't tar all students with the same brush, but I'm not a fan of the "it's my right" and "your generation didn't have to pay" attitude.
There's lots of things that differ between generations and it bugs me that people want to cherry pick only the bits that work out better for them.

Have they filmed this to take the piss? These people are all doing the most pointless degrees available. They couldn't have picked a better selection of people to further the stereotype of non-degrees. Apart from maybe the journalism one but what is up with that girl?

Who's said that all students are freeloaders? It's the pillocks in the video that people are complaining about.wiffmaster said:
