I'm not sure if that is a lot of money or not.

If they were made in a far eastern sweatshop then I think the price is stupendous.

If they were made by a man called George in a little workshop at the seaside then the price seems better.

Do you know where they originate?

Inflation risk. Fixed rate mortgages. Variable mortgages based on BoE rates.
Real returns are dented.

They don't have inflation risk. They borrow fixed rates in money markets, and hedge using swaps. Variable rates are based on LIBOR, and that is passed (more or less) onto the borrower.

Are you suggesting they are fully hedged against inflation!? Surely the cost would be prohibitive?
History suggests nothing is fully hedged.

I don't see how inflation comes into it. Indeed, they cannot be fully hedged, the money markets may not lend to them.

I get mine here: http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/product-list.php?bra...
Yes but had 4 pairs from the the Village biggrin, cracking shoes tho, even if i lost part of my heel to blisters.. laugh

About £200 a pair, these were on offer rather than factory seconds, i'd not pay the full £350 price tbh, i like a deal.

Flash git wink

(I save mine 'for best'.

Most workdays I tend to be scruffier, especially since I'm in the habit if mooching over to our engineering works and tramping about in oil and swarf. For which I cannot but recommend Blundestone boots - utterly indestructible.)

RPI at 5.5% in Feb is, I think, the highest rate of annual increase for 20 years!

The money that I have prudently saved away may actually start generating some cash?
Not very prudent to have it sitting around in cash. Why is is not invested?
You can't complain about not making any money if it's not invested.

there's little to no incentive for people to save right now. i save from my menial wage a good 30-40% of it and unless i need to make an expenditure i dont do the splashin out

but whats the point of keeping it in a bank etc if i'm gettin a petty return in my investment

rewarding the careless in soceity is a common trait that needs to be stopped.
Rubbish, I saved my full ISA amount last year and so far - yep, it's made 12%. Seems like a fairly good return to me.

You can, in theory. It is unusual for the real interest rate to be negative.

I don't think there are any cash ISAs paying more that 3.5% currently.
