I didn't meant that to come across as having a go at you BTW,
I didn't take it that way smile

I'm as frustrated as many Americans. I lived there for a while (CA) and have visited many times. Nearly moved back in 2015. Aside from the costs of living in San Francisco, the debate about guns was a factor in not taking up the role.

Having a young child at the time I didn't want lockdown drills to be part of her education. I am not anti-gun (I shoot clay pigeons, have had air-rifles and shot at local competition level) but am pro-controls.
And this is the thing, gun control is not gun bans. Never have been. Australia give the average gun nut a raging hate boner because it has effective gun control that works. However you can still own a gun, there are just rules about keeping and registering them.

If the US wanted to see a significant drop in gun deaths, one of the key things they could do is store guns safely and securely. This means unloaded and locked away in a safe. You'd see at least a small drop in gun related homicides but a huge drop in accidental shootings.

Unfortunately this requires an attitude change as well as a legal one.

Someone needs to put forward a very dull and not very interesting law that very few if anyone at all would be interested in or read, something about not being allowed to force feed ducks grapes with a tiny small print clause saying "oh and the removal of the 2nd amendment".

Good try.
Unfortunately, the reason most sensible gun control legislation gets blocked by the Republicans automatically is that it it is almost always this kind of attempt, in that it includes (paraphrasing):
1. A bill to include background checks for all firearms sales between all parties involved. Acceptable to all parties.
Addendum 2. The bill also includes legislation requiring a background check if you want to loan a gun to your neighbor who wants to go duck shooting. Not acceptable to the Republicans(see current attempt).
Addendum 1,284. The bill also includes legislation to ban all ammunition sales to anyone not in the government.
Addendum 1,285. Ban all assault rifle sales. Assault rifle defined as any weapon that includes a method of holding it with two hands.
These are usually tacked on by someone (from either party) wanting to kill the legislation as these will be automatic reasons for the Republicans to block it.

This happens with more than just gun control; politicians of both sides will tack on an amendment that is unacceptable to one party in order to stall it, or block it.

The result is that only something very simple AND with broad support will make it forward. Even that last attempt was doomed to failure as it didn't include sufficient provision for temporary loans.

It's not as simple as you think, without a substantial majority. Even with one, stalling tactics work a lot of the time.

As they do in Switzerland, where most households have guns, but they don't go round routinely shooting each other.

Part of the problem is the framing of the argument, where the gun lobby frame it as freedom to own and gun, and that gun controls are a restrction on freedom.

In my view the opposite is true, in that gun control allows me to live in society free from the need to own a gun, and that widespread gun ownership removes that freedom from me.

In other words, if you own a gun because you feel you need it for personal protection, then it's a need and not a want, and therefore not a freedom.

That's no excuse for not starting.
61 years ago JFK said " We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard", time for some similar sentiments about guns
And, look what happened to him.....
Are you suggesting Kowalski's about to get bumped off by the CIA? hehe
Well, he hasn’t posted since!!!!

That's depressing.

I though I was being over dramatic.

I guess the number doesn’t register much when you think of how many people die in road accidents, suicide, booze related illness, drug deaths etc….

I'll give it a week before someone is selling a conjoined 3 mag option with internal switch over that is technically, and thus legally, 3 small capacity magazines.

Thus offering the same freedom dealing fire rate of one large capacity mag.

If you are thinking of moving to the USA.
1. Live away from the coast.
2. Live in a state which has straight boundaries. Rectangular, if possible.

There's some doubling up on that list ... it's worrying enough without.

Having lived in Ohio I spotted OSU on there twice.
