Guy Verhofstadt has told The Times the rise of populism and the far-right could bring down the Union by 2024 if they cannot be replaced by a 'new vision of the EU'.
That sounds like a Nazi party quote not something we should hear from a current politician

It is a question that can't be answered as there is nothing good about the EU that actually requires a political union, they also struggle with what does remain mean? is it more of the same? closer integration? a completely reformed EU that nobody knows what it will look like? what other countries will join in the next couple of generations and how much of a strain on our resources will it be.
Absolutely closer integration. Why not??

It really doesn't sound like anything of the sort.

If you think that I fear you've lost any sense of perspective.

Or is the alternative “Little Britain”....?

I really hope we can move past this nightmare, TM has to be gone in a week and perhaps a new plan for Brexit can form.
Only people like you (remainer) looks from a negative to another negative.

Guy Verhofstadt laugh

Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and Russia will destroy the European Union, according to a chief Brexit negotiator in Brussels.

Guy Verhofstadt has told The Times the rise of populism and the far-right could bring down the Union by 2024 if they cannot be replaced by a 'new vision of the EU'.

The former Belgian Prime Minister, 66, compared Boris Johnson to France's Marine Le Pen, as he emerged as the favourite to replace Theresa May.

Mr Verhofstadt slammed his regular European Parliament enemy Nigel Farage, claiming he secretly doesn't want Brexit to happen as it would make him irrelevant.

His scathing attack also included accusations that Russia has been manipulating the European elections - 'like they did with the Brexit referendum'.
Well. it appears it's not just the Remainers here that are in 'meltdown'.

Is GV slowly getting there? It appears that he wants the populist movements to have a new vision - a step in the right direction but still it appears to him that it's everybody else's fault not the EU's! All he (and his chums) need to do now is accept that this will only happen if the EU reforms its ways. Can they/will they do that before it's all too late?

It's easy to see where our EU-loving Remainers get their blinkers from when their leaders seem to have a ready supply.

On the contrary. I'm a floating voter and always happy to listen.

One of my closest friends is a massive remain supporter. I asked him for some positives but all he could do was focus on the speculation/unknowns of leaving. He just quoted all the soundbites round project fear. The impression I got was that he was frightened of change, and I get that.

I then explained why I voted leave and he understood my justification.

It was all very boring and civilised with no milkshakes in sight and I wasn't throwing a beer away. Neither of us changed our opinions but I was slightly disappointed in his lack of reasoning when I openly asked him.

Hardly. But you generally tar everyone who voted Brexit with the same brush so happy to answer.

My apologies.

I must have incorrectly misinterpreted your neutral stance as being biased towards remain.

I must come to Diddly's defence here.

ES reporting May has pulled back from tabling the "revised" WB - and seemingly is preparing to duck out tomorrow, as she'll be pushed by Brady otherwise.

Times, they are a'changing.
