But they are already saying next Autumn and Winter are going to be a disaster.

So what plans do they have in mind to mitigate the effect of wave whatever?

My guess is fk all save for fingers crossed and\or lockdown.

I think if we tread carefully during the year, winter may not be that bad.

But how carefully do you think we have to tread?

Maybe storing some up to drop in when the numbers get really low
The 65 is the numbers reported for all the Uk countries combined per the government official web site with 62 for England on 8 March.

The Nhs England says 90 tested positive and 13 no positive test but civid recorded on death cert. so 103 in total although only up to 4pm on 6 April.

On 6 March GOvt site said 135 England.

So which figure do we go on? Who knows as I can’t tie up any of the numbers
That’s numberwang!

I agree. Best to lockdown those at risk and over 65 just to be sure, while the rest of us just get on with life.

Maybe the same as we are now, even with restrictions lifted.

I think now the virus has had a devastating effect on any people, that may convince everyone to keep practicing a bit of social distancing, more hand washing etc.

This seems like a sensible approach to start with.

Am I missing something here

“ Harries said although there was a steep decline in cases and deaths, infections were still causing a “substantial strain on the NHS”.”

When numbers in hospital are down from a peak of just over 39,000 to now at just over 10,000. Those poor people on ventilators are down from 4000 to 1542

Admissions are down from 4000 a day to 688.

Words and figures differ I would say
SAGE?

Yes, it is literally all the cases we're seeking out now that might give any remote cause for concern, but we're still worried about the NHS. Insane.

Let's do it again in November

And Zoobeef, that's shocking. I remember you mentioning a few days ago. Do you know if that's a NHS blanket policy? I was under the impression if I developed a cataract in the other eye, it would be treated in the same way?
I imagine it is regional, there never seems to be much in the way of consistency.
My mum had both done in 2019 iirc, yet now my gran can't.
The same NHS have also said they won't fund any fertility treatment for my sister as her partner has children with another woman already (they live with the mother).

So her option is to fork out thousands or find a new partner.

Perhaps they are concerned about vaccine enhancement.......

Not sure why any "treading careful" now is going to make the slightest difference to next winter.

Why? Almost everyone will be vaccinated. It will be the same as any other winter so the hospitals will still be rammed with old people dying of flu.

Oh yes, no one is allowed to die anymore so lockdown it will be rolleyes

Why are they still sticking to the school testing ‘rule’ re positive test?
I don’t get it.
Hopefully a u turn will be coming soon.

‘The government is sticking to the rule that a positive rapid Covid test done in secondary schools in England cannot be overruled by the gold-standard tests processed by labs. Concerns have been raised by testing experts that significant numbers could be incorrectly told they are infected by the less accurate, rapid tests, leading them and their families to self-isolate for no reason. Asked if children should be allowed to exit self-isolation if the more reliable PCR test gave a negative result, children's minister Vicky Ford told the BBC: "They should not take the risk, we all want to make sure we can keep Covid out of the classrooms here."

Why concern? We've stuck to the sole strategy of lockdown till vaccination for 15 months, ordered enough to vaccine the whole country several times over, and got it in arms. These people aren't in the business of confirming the efficacy of the vaccine over new variants though, despite the positive evidence.

Yeah every winter for last 20 yrs the media have reported the nhs is going to collapse. This winter will be no different, except now the population are accepting of lockdowns.

That is what they are worried about.......said it yesterday, expecting a load of flu next winter as we have stopped it this year.

I do wonder if the Public will accept another lockdown next winter

I've yet to hear even the biggest bedwetter suggest lockdown for flu. They of course like to emphasis that COVID is nothing like the flu, but of course if people still aren't dying of flu, rather just COVID this Winter...

Wales' daily figures. Footnote explaining low due to weekend reporting lag, but that's the same every week. 3 deaths last Monday, 9 before that. Still a good figure to see. I wonder if this will be mentioned on the news.

The change in behaviour and outlook of our 6 year old after just one day back in school is remarkable.
Good to hear it - assuming it's positive!
You could have mistaken it for Christmas Eve in our house last night and they've both come home bouncing tonight. As you say, I can't believe the difference.

The evil bds that implemented this should never be allowed to do it again.
