Anyone know how much these tests cost each?
The testing is mostly LFT now so somewhere under £5 for each stick. Still a lot of money per week. Secondary schools alone should consume at least 6m tests per week. Add in parents/carers, staff and I wouldn’t be shocked to see 1.5m tests per day on some days just for schools.b0rk said:

Edited to add:
Is this their definition of "living with it"? (Think i know the answer to that one, sadly). When does it stop? July, when everyone's vaccinated? Winter, when the kids have been done too, and the boosters have been rolled out? Next spring? Next summer? Never? (Sadly I suspect i know the answer here too )
Has the £100b for project moonshot been accounted for anywhere? They seem to be struggling to find an extra 25b, in 3 years time - so how does that compute with an annual bill of 100b plus?

Thailand have announced today that they will be giving a little card, that one has to pay for (£1), to everyone who receives two doses of vaccine.
These official little cards will be available for £20 within a day of this system going live, vaccine or not. Guarantee it.
Bangkok market will sell them or copies of them even cheaper alongside the usual degree certificates etc.
No plans for an app or any kind of digital system.
This is the reality for most of the world.
What happens if I get my vaccine (or not) here in Thailand and turn up with a little yellow card in squiggle language? What if Thailand mandates the Sinovax vaccine due to supplies? Can I come home? Do I have to have another on top? Does anyone know if that's safe?
Add on top hundreds of other countries with differing systems.
Unless we close our borders forever and just have brits running around showing green pictures from apps to each other all day, there will come a point when this all falls apart.
I still maintain that it's a nonsense. Unworkable.

I am pretty sure you are right and that vaccine passports are a bluff to encourage greater take up of the vaccine amongst younger people that do not directly benefit from it. These official little cards will be available for £20 within a day of this system going live, vaccine or not. Guarantee it.

But then I look at Israel and wonder if people have in fact lost their minds completely. That fascism could take root there of all places on earth shows the fundamental weaknesses of human thought and herd mentality. We seem to have learned nothing from the history of the last century.
I think its on a knife edge.
There are people who have driven these restrictions for over a year, who are promoting mass 'moonshot' testing, who want vaccine passports and masks for children in schools. I genuinely believe those people are mentally ill. The stress of the pandemic has shattered their sense of right and wrong.
I don't know what we do about them, but I don't want them to win.

The level of unlock needs to accelerate, people are already ignoring many of the rules anyway. We really need to get things running again.
The reason they won't bring the dates forward despite the data dictating that we should, is because they don't want people to get too used to having their basic freedoms back. The restrictions are due to end fully on summer solstice. Think about that. They're allowing people out at the point which days start getting shorter. When "cases" start rising end of summer "alas I'm sorry but we will need to lockdown again this winter". And people will still be adjusted to taking that order as they have done so far. The level of unlock needs to accelerate, people are already ignoring many of the rules anyway. We really need to get things running again.
We're living in a dictatorship now, but there's some mass denial going on. I'll believe they intend to allow us normality when the coronavirus act is in the bin.

Reliable antibody testing requires veinous blood draw for an elisa lab test. The rapid diagnostic antibody tests haven't really been shown to be very precise.
At that point tbh the hassle and expense is such that you might as well just jab up everyone rather than separately have to do blood draws and antibody testing. The simple no hassle way is just to exclude those who did test positive on a PCR test from one dose and possibly both. That's already recorded in the NHS system so it doesn't require more effort to figure out.
I very much doubt the data is good enough or clean enough. At that point tbh the hassle and expense is such that you might as well just jab up everyone rather than separately have to do blood draws and antibody testing. Imagine if the English had imposed it on them? I'm sure there would have been some kickback then! It's similar to over here, I'm convinced if magic grandpa had tried to implement half the policies these s have there would have been riots. Nationalising people's wages for a start would have been seen as an evil commie coup rather than cuddly uncle Boris looking after us all.
4700 cases yesterday & 65 deaths. At current projections COVID will be all but irrelevant in the UK by the end of March, and yet restrictions will remains in place for a further 3 months, it's madness. How are they going to continue to justify these restrictions when deaths drop down to single figures? If the vaccine means that 90% of hospitalisations are avoided, and those that do catch the virus suffer very mild symptoms, then why should we care how many 'cases' there are?
During this third lockdown my family & I have been pretty strict with ourselves in terms of obeying the rules, but I'm extremely close to ignoring them altogether, especially considering both sets of parents have now had the vaccine.
As for perpetual winter lockdowns, they can go ahead, I won't be adhering to them.

The Isle of Man is back in 3 week lock down and the numbers are higher than that, it is a text book example of why we need to be careful about opening up (I appreciate this view is not for this thread though!)Covid: Eight in hospital as IOM virus cases rise by 56

With cases tumbling. 25m+ vaccines and the weather getting better. You would really think we should be opening up and getting the economy back on track.
Hopefully the rumours that sturgeon might be speeding up Scotland. Might put a boot up Boris
Seems Whitty isn't convinced and has basically said there will be another surge, which makes sense i guess.Hopefully the rumours that sturgeon might be speeding up Scotland. Might put a boot up Boris
"Prof Chris Whitty, England's chief medical officer, tells the Commons Science and Technology Select Committee that all the modelling shows there will be another surge of the virus despite the vaccination programme."

No it's merely a textbook example of why zerocovid is an idiotic example of plugging the forever war trying to keep infections low or nonexistent for all eternity.skinnyman said:

Why not if you've adhered thus far? During this third lockdown my family & I have been pretty strict with ourselves in terms of obeying the rules, but I'm extremely close to ignoring them altogether, especially considering both sets of parents have now had the vaccine.

1. The vaccine is not 100% effective.
2. Not everyone will take the vaccine.
3. We are opening up society at a point where not everyone has had the vaccine and indeed well below the threshold for herd immunity (assuming it can ever be established).
How can this possibly be news!? None of this is the unknown. The unknown is how sausage fingers will react to rising cases....

It was. Now it isn't. That's what happens. They have to be lucky all the time. The virus only has to be lucky once. Their luck ran out.Covid: Eight in hospital as IOM virus cases rise by 56
