That's one job out of how many prisoner in car transports?

It's not practical to only transport prisoners in vans.
I didn't say it was practical to only transport prisoners in vans.
I said if it wasn't practicable to use a van then cars are used - but only if a van isn't practicable.

Eg. Multiple prisoners, same job, you want to keep them separate - not enough vans.
Violent prisoners never get transported in a car.

My (old) force has lots of vans. Even the small ones (Transit Connect) have a cage.

We used vans to transport after public order incidents for example when already local to the incident. . Specialist units wouldnt use vans. I worked on a crime unit for my last 5 years and we used our cars for every arrest - it certainly wouldnt be practical to wait for vans to be available.
You worked on a crime unit for 5 years and never had a violent prisoner ?

Or you put violent prisoners in the car ?

Being in the back of the transit connect in the cage is not pleasant in itself. Avoid!!

One - at the conclusion of a search warrant - other prisoners had already been taken away (in cars)- leaving me and a firearms unit to await transport for him - he kicked off and I had to handle him pretty much on my own as the firearms officers wouldnt / couldnt get too involved.- we had to get a van out for him. So. apart from that....its pretty much a no from me..sorry I cant give more war stories. Most of our prisoners were expecting a knock in any case.

Not the point at all but that article is the first time I have ever heard of a 'family mobile phone'.

To be fair even looking at a police Transit Connect from the outside isn't a particularly pleasant experience. They are the high roof ones and they look st. Like a cross between Postman Pat and a dodgy plasterer in police livery. Oh, and they were, at one time painted puke yellow (which faded very quickly and some of them turned almost pink !).
They drive surprisingly well though for a van.

Agreed, I ran a very ratty one for several months during a dark period of my life. It didn't lock, had dents everywhere, smoked like a working man's club in the morning, but never actually stopped. I could not shake the Postman bloody Pat tune from my head. Strangely, in the back cage its Johnny Cash and Folsom Prison Blues that gets stuck.....

Cheers. I'd love to know where this magical place is where prisoners almost never kick off and never, ever try to escape from custody.
It sounds lovely.

Possibly messages on the cloud shared by multiple (family) devices. Not sure what sort or morons the police employ. Not just the offenders. You'd also have to be pretty stupid not to turn off WhatsApp's auto download to your gallery, or to share a phone with a teenager which appears to be the case here as WhatsApp can't be used on multiple devices like IMessage

A lot clearly depends on how theyre handled I suppose. I wish I could tell a story about how I lost one. Of course over my time I had some good scraps, as did everyone but that was par for the course

That’s because you ran an old crap one. I’ve had them new since 2015 in Limited trim. A very nice place to be. DAB, Cruise, Aircon and heated seats are just some of its delights. Guard Green metallic too as Mrs won’t let me put a white one on the drive!

Automotive digressions, no matter how crap, are surely welcome on PH. As an aside whilst I've never had the pleasure, apparently if you get a ride in the back of an NYC police car you want it to be soaking wet; this at least means it has been recently hosed out! vomit

I think that's a little bit hyperbolic.

Let the IOPC do their job and either everything is fine or it isn't.

Why is it interesting ? It's a complete non-story. Details including ethnic origin are recorded as a matter of course on PACE 1 forms. If the IOPC want to waste their time looking through the forms then crack on.
