Tommy Robinson attacked at McDonald’s
Discussion
The TR fan club do appear to believe they represent a large proportion of the British public though, if the likes of the YT and Mail online comments sections are any sort of guide? Many also appear to believe UKIP may afford them an air of legitimisation. If anything it’ll most likely rob UKIP of any authenticity they had garnered as a political party and they’ll become the BNP in a different frock.

And membership up since Batten and Yaxley-Lennon started their bromance!
The thing with Farage being "proud" to have taken a third of the BNP vote is that he didn't miraculously convert these people to sane, sensible people - the fruit loops just found another place to hang out where they thought they could voice their stty views. No doubt Batten will want to trump Farage by claiming "we've taken half the EDL vote". They're still the same people.
Farage realises that some UKIP members are more than a little Islamophobic and likely a bit racist too. This has been the case for a long time.
There are also quite a few normal people who don't particularly understand the motivation of ISIS or the nuances of Islamic theology. But they see kids being blown up at concerts and it makes them angry. And they direct some of that anger towards Muslims in general. Hence the Daily Mail type comments etc.
But at a General Election people have to weigh up a large range of policy issues including schools, hospitals, policiing, tax etc etc. Your average voter has to decide which issues are most important to them. And at that point, only a few percent of people will decide to vote for a party who think being anti-muslim is one of the most important issues.
The other important aspect is that many people who voted Brexit are not racist -they believe in the principle of a self governing country. But if UKIP has decided to adopt policies making them 'BNP-lite', it will be very easy for their opponents to make them look toxic to the average person. And this will undermine the influence of UKIP which I think it what Farage is most concerned about.
Baten was on LBC yesterday talking about Tommy and the party manifesto. Apparently Baten doesn’t dislike Muslims, but dislikes the ideology of extreme Islam - all very noble. And then goes on to ostracise Muslims - now it’s starting to sound familiar.
This “I’m only against the extreme ideology” line seems to provide people like TR and Baten with some kind of legitimacy to spout anti Muslim (note not ideological Islam) rhetoric - and unfortunately a lot of their supporters follow suit. “I’m not racist because I only dislike the extreme ideology” - nothing against billions of Muslims of course.
It’s probably the only avenue left for the party having arguably achieved its objective of Brexit. It’s boom or bust time, and he’s trying to find a void he can fill.

I'm a vegetarian. All my mates eat meat. One is your typical instagram chef with his daily uploads of the days cuisine.
I haven't got a problem with any of my mates or other meat eaters for that matter.
Believe it or not, it is possible to like a person but to dislike their beliefs. The same goes for religion.
Why you lot can't get your head around that I'll never know.

With such deep philosophical thinking you will no doubt soon be asked to do a piece on R4's 'Thought for the Day'.All my mates eat meat. One is your typical instagram chef with his daily uploads of the days cuisine.

So calling them things like vermin, paedo, rapist etc, whilst calling for them to be “sent back to where they came from” are just terms of affection? Some lovely placards in this clip. Just the kind of thing you’d say to people you like I guess?

Yes you’re right. But TR and his gang dislike all Muslims. Despite the rhetoric of radical Islam. Radical Islam is books, it doesn’t manifest itself other than through people. Any offences that Muslims commit are because of Islam. Most of the bombers, rapists etc, have been into drugs and alcohol, so not really good Muslims are they? But for TR’s purposes, they are Muslims. That’s how it works. They don’t take individuals at their individual level. “Radical Islam” is a smokescreen for their racism. All my mates eat meat. You fail to see the irony in accusing TR and "his gang" of not taking individuals at their individual level?Alpinestars said:

How erudite. The irony might work better had I said TR and all white English men. But never mind, I didn’t expect you to understand the point. Vanden Saab said:

Much clearer, but you still are coming across as disliking them for the views they hold rather than disliking the views. In that respect you are still the same as them.
Given I don’t know “them”. it’s pretry hard to dislike them. So that doesn’t work either. The only people I know who volunteer the views TR prescribes to are those that state them in public (tv etc), or on forums. I don’t cross paths with people who express those views in real life.

Who’s TR’s gang? Who do you think I meant by that? It’s not a defined group you know. Given I used the term, I’ll define what I meant. It’s someone who uses the same justification of “radical Islam” to a cover for their racism. Hope that’s now clearer.
Seems as the hair trigger has been pulled and we are currently embarking on another arc of calling everone a racist, again, how about also dusting off another well worn question of trying to define what race islam is?The answer, it isn't, it is a theocratic socio-political belief system that transcends all races.
It is perfectly acceptable to dislike it, just like it is perfectly acceptable to dislike rainy Saturday afternoons or any other religion or anything else, whatever it is.
Saying that, it is unfair to compare other religions to islam as other religions do not govern every single other aspect of a persons life like islam does, right down to how to wipe (or not) ones arse.

Schisms - many and varied. So trying to homogenise x billion people is beyond stupid. The vast majority of those don’t follow whatever books they believe in. The ones who TR etc use as examples of why Muslims are dangerous are arguably the least pliant to the religion. But it’s a great smokescreen.
Racism - our laws would disagree with you. You still didn’t quite get past the are s a race? Do you respect our laws and can you answer whether Pakistanis are a race? Or are you going to keep avoiding that question? To remind you, you though a white person calling a brown Asian a , is racist. What race are Pakistanis vis a vis the white European?
