Anyone watching this live? Very dramatic happenings, the vote was supposed to happen 10 minutes ago. Jeff Flake leaves with his long time Dem friend Coons and doesn't yet return. Dems walk about, Reps left twiddling their thumbs.
Lots of stupid comments

Flake just proposed one week delay for FBI investigation.

Not sure what can be achieved in just a week though. The FBI will have to pull their finger out.

If Roe v Wade is overturned then it will be down to states to decide on abortion rather than to have a federal law that forces it on states, so those very religious states will get to ban it and those more liberal states will get to keep it.

This is really what the conservatives want, they want the ability to force a religious viewpoint on the state (and on those in that state that are not religious). I would hazard a guess they dont want their tax dollars being spent on abortions, much better to spend it on litigation, cost of schools, cost of welfare and cost of prison instead to prove a religious point to a non-existent god.

I would assume the 69% statistic covers all states, but it would be good to see those stats on a state by state basis.
http://www.pewforum.org/religious-landscape-study/compare/views-about-abortion/by/state/
Pretty much as expected. I took their data on religious view per state and you can see that where there are high numbers of Catholics and Evangelicals there is a very high likely hood of a view that abortion shouldn't be allowed (i.e more than 50% of the people surveyed said no to abortion where the state had more than 50% of people identifying themselves as Catholic / Evangelical).

I can understand why politicians end up pandering to these groups however wrong we non us'ers feel their views are. They simply wont get elected unless they can show they are upholding the religious viewpoint of the majority.
Some states already doing it, as Roe v Wade already altered by Planned Parenthood v Casey to allow varying state rules, but that can only get worse with Kavanaugh(although SCOTUS struck down the TX requirements mentioned in the video-there may be others but I CBA to google them smile:

Grassley is such a doddery old fool I don’t think anyone knows what happened. I thought Flake said he would vote only if the FBI investigation was agreed?

That’s sort of what I got from it, everyone seemed a bit confused about what they were actually voting for.

GOP played a blinder. Flake said he would vote on the understanding that a week FBI investigation would follow before the floor vote. Then they were made to vote without voting on that first. So they voted him through without any agreement to do the investigation. Then the chair ended the session straight away.

So the Dems and Flake got hoodwinked. It now just comes down to whether McConnell wants to do the investigation or now, which he absolutely wont. So it’ll go straight to the proper senate vote where it will presumably pass.

Sneaky fkers!

So in the full senate vote they need a majority for Brett to get in?

Yep. A simple majority takes it. Only two on the GOP need to revolt though. Should be interesting.

One thing we have all learned though, even outside of Trump himself, American politics is a fking st show.

Absolutley right, I couldnt believe what I saw happen just then. But also, so scary that no one stood up and said 'hold on, what are we voting on again?'.... Vote then discuss afterward is insane!

Staggering naivety in that room for those ten seconds. All the speeches just went out the window and everyone was doing it based on trust! A ‘gentlemen and ladies’ agreement is what they apparently ended up with.

Basically fk all.

Agreed, mentalness. How anyone could consider someone for a position in the highest court in the land whilst having numerous allegations over his head is beyond belief. Is it a case of the republicans being desperate to keep their equally rapey leader happy?
