Today confirms Starmer has effectively expelled Corbyn from the Labour party and now will compete with each other for the seat in Islington North. That will probably be the only interesting thing in this whole election. Funny, Starmer told us all we should vote for Corbyn to be prime minister. HIs judgement and lack of it may haunt him.

Now to see what happens with Abbot, could be the same.
?? Keir Starmer is the MP for Holborn and St Pancras, not Islington North.
Corbyn is Islington North
Your initial post might be interpreted as the news that Starmer will instead stand in Islington North to directly oppose Corbyn.
Alternatively, that Labour's leader is in Party terms fighting an ex-leader in Islington North.

KS: "Hello, Diane? It's me, Keir. The good news is that we've decided we really, really want you to stand for election in July after all....."

DA: "Oh, thank you so much Keir, you know I'll do my absolute best to...."

KS: "....in Islington North"

DA: "Oh, bks"

Coast should be clear in around 6 weeks time;

I can think of one Labour scandal that trumps all of those.

See if you can guess which one it is.
I've had a good objective think about it but you'll have to enlighten us on the one Labour scandal that you believe trumps that lot.
Anything?
Iraq. It doesn’t matter that loads of Tories voted for it. It doesn’t matter. Blair, who was in charge as a Labour PM. He is responsible for our involvement.

It doesn’t change where we are now though.
One PM misled Parliament about having some birthday cake.
One PM misled Parliament about the reasons for going to war.

One of them was forced to resign not long after.
Possibly because of all the other stuff listed a couple of posts earlier that you seem to be dismissing?
By the way I'm not dismissing those other 'scandals' at all. I think his resignation was appropriate.

However, much as we like to moan about how politics has become less honourable, it's always worth pointing out that Blair wasn't forced (or offered) to resign for a much more serious misleading of Parliament.
IMO the scandals listed above add up to a far more comprehensive, ingrained and in the long term far more damaging duffing-up of integrity in public life.
There is one in this very small list (of which seems to ignore the Irag war) that far outweighs all of those combined imo.

Essentially my vote will go to whichever party is making Proportional Representation a priority and will make it a reality.
So you won't be voting then? wink

This will potentially be a major problem for Starmer and Labour

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c72pd91dg0go

In the Birmingham mayoral election

Mr Yakoob, a director with a Birmingham-based firm of solicitors, campaigned as an advocate for people in Gaza and Kashmir, as well as voicing support for pro-Khalistan figures.

Speaking on TikTok, where he has more than 190,000 followers, Mr Yakoob said his success ( in the Birmingham Mayoral vote ) was "the beginning of the end of the Labour Party in the Midlands and Birmingham".

He’s now standing in Birmingham Ladywood against Labour, his election leaflet shows him standing in front of a Palestinian flag

Ladywood is one of the most multi-cultural areas of the U.K. and if this becomes a pattern across many such areas how many Labour seats is it likely to effect?

A bit of an odd platform for somebody campaigning to be the mayor of a city in the centre of England?

"The bins are not being collected, transport and business are in chaos, but at least the mayor is supporting people in the Middle East and central Asia"

Taking a firm stance either way on Kashmir and Khalistan might alienate alternate portions of that multi-cultural population regardless?

Just had the Labour MP and his assistant sniffing round our neighbours as we put the car on the drive

Getting the shopping and plants out of the car:

"Oh I can see you're busy" and just carries on to ask us about the election.

I think she saw how uninterested we were and finshed asking my wife "Can I put you down as...."

"I don't want you putting me down as anything, I don't want to be part of your statistics. Thanks".

"Nice car!"

"Thanks"

My mrs. was then mortified that she may have appeared rude to them. hehe

Doubt the Tories will be coming door to door round here.

That reminds me, I've already got my LibDem window poster - I'll put it up immediately, stop any undesirables knocking on the door.

You'd be gutted if you were out when the Tory candidate pops round on horseback in his pinks looking to drum up support for his policy of repealing the hunting with dogs legislation, and you missed out on the chance to give him a bit of feedback though......

All historic administrations who are long gone, not current people asking us to vote for them.

Big difference.

George Osborne was once (prior to his makeover as an ordinary chap) spotted attending a social housing scheme in the Tatton constituency in riding gear.

This just reminds me how dispiriting canvassing is; I stood and was elected for a council seat in Scotland but I absolutely hated it (canvassing), which probably should have alerted me to the fact I wasn’t cut out for a life in politics (I’m thin skinned). I was out leafleting one day when a child on a bike was pedalling furiously towards me. He stopped, and struggling to get his breath, told me his dad had told him to tell me to “stick the leaflet up my arse”, which made me smile.
If I wasn’t feeling up for it, I would head to an area where I would be guaranteed a warm welcome (invited in for tea/biscuits/sherry), which made me feel a bit better smile

Looking back now I can’t think of anything less appealing than knocking on doors asking for people’s support, but then I’ve grown to hate the general public having spent five years listening to them! (and I feel the same way about politicians too)
