Political bias at BBC - something has to be done surely
Discussion
I’m getting fed up with the Beebs obsession with the Donald’s impeachment hearing.
They’ve told us ages ago it won’t get through the Senate, but nonetheless we have to have a blow by blow account of every stage. As the headline story on R4 PM Evan Davis couldn’t even name check Bill Clinton as the previous incumbent to receive the treatment (he actually said it was Carter!).
As a foreign political event does the Beeb still have to practice impartiality?

I suppose it is quite a difficult judgment call on how much coverage to give something like this, but the truth is that an impeachment vote on a president is a very big deal, and very rare. trump is only number three in the whole history of the USA.They’ve told us ages ago it won’t get through the Senate, but nonetheless we have to have a blow by blow account of every stage. As to whether they have to be impartial on a foreign event, I am not sure, but they are sure as hell a lot more impartial than Fox and MSNBC!
Radio 4 have a great habit of choosing trails for the programmes that give you a little signal....
Advertising some chat show or other over the xmas break several times a day which is going to feature JK Rowling and some random female comedian. Little snippet to hook us in:
JK Rowling: I got shown round the White House by Barack Obama...
Random comedian: Oh you went at the [i]right time [/]....
Audience: gales of laughter

His idiotic and, frankly evil, glorification of a gang culture that sees the pointless death of dozens of youngsters every year rather diminishes the legitimacy of, or interest, in anything he has to say, in my view.
We had people here frothing about Nigel Farage's metaphorical statement about taking up arms and demanding that the police take action, but some seem quite happy to give people like Stormzy a privileged position as a political spokesman despite his encouraging the actual use of guns.
And it's not a one-off aberration - look at the lyrics on any of his albums.
Public Enemy have been doing Rap activism for years, on a classier footprint. Problem is with Chuck D in his 50's and Flavor Flav possibly a lot older; not exactly appealing to today's yoot. To be honest with Professor Griff being a bit of an anti-semite; they probably would have turned in a better performance than Labour in the election.
If the BEEB still had the Tim Westwood Rap Show, he'd put a stop to these plastic mandem Stormzy types from the ends and put us back on course with Public Enemy, Wu Tang Clan and Mos Def.
Yoots today, init.

It's those tts we have to thank for Kanye and making Jay-z st. Proper Sauvignon Blanc (nobody fking likes gooseberries that much) and Craft Beer drinking wkers, whom think Grime is a reflection upon a "revolutionary egalitarian society". But have no fking idea who Gil Scott Heron is. s. Whenever the wife brings her self improvement junky TED talks cult members (& "partners") round for dinner, I just whack on Eazy-E and if I'm feeling really naughty the 2 Live Crew. One of these life coach knobheads was trying to ingratiate himself over a beer and tell me "fk tha Police" was a response to the Rodney King riots, despite being released 4 years prior. Cock. Probably has a remainer time machine. Or I ignore em and play Call of Duty.

In fact his message of not sitting around complaining and blaming the government has distinctly Thatcherite undertones with the emphasis on the individual's responsibility to improve their lot, and not rely on the state.
Stormzy’s message about finding self truth and improving your situation often reminds me very much of Norman Tebbit’s famous 1981 speech at the Conservative party conference,
“I grew up in the 30s with an unemployed father. He didn't riot; he got on his bike and looked for work and he kept looking 'til he found it.“
Stormzy echos this sentiment in his song ‘Know Me From’
“We all know you’re a good child / So pull up your jeans, get off the street and go do your mum proud / Go get a job and don’t come out your house, mug”
Simple lessons, spoken by Thatcher and Tebbit and now Stormzy, still very relevant today about not sitting around blaming the government, the EU, the BBC, foreigners, travelers, young people, liberals, right wingers, for any of your problems and improving your situation yourself. Simply because the BBC or government or political parties or the EU etc aren’t the source of your unhappiness or dissatisfaction.
Well Tony Hall denies any bias in the BBC election coverage citing complaints from both sides. Find his comment that the "BBC would improve if there was a need to do so" somewhat in the mould of nothing to see here move along now."
Personally it wasn't as bad as many make out, though Marr's ridiculous interrupting 'interview' of Boris and Brillo's grandstanding over Boris not giving him an interview both way overstepped the mark by a country mile. Radio 4 Today programme skated on thin ice and has for years, plus their consistent bias in any Brexit debate concerning pro and anti Brexit speaker numbers deserves to come home to roost. On the other hand when Labour were in government they frequently complained.
Channel 4 on the other hand. Not be sorry to see their arse handed to them.
