I'm not asking you to. I'm simply asking if you think the Scottish government are publishing data which shows our country's finances in an unnecessarily negative light.

Do you?
Well no one knows for sure as where jorvbloggs pays his tax isn't correct so must be the case for enough people to materially impact the data.

We will know soon though as the Scottish income tax comes into play we will know exactly how much is raised. It could be less about the number GERS states or a lot more.

Is it just me or is Edinburger not on top of his game recently?

Recent events:
- Being taken in by a spoof website ( Clicking on any article and it is clear it is worse than the Onion etc )
- Land mass (ir)relevance that left everyone scratching their heads.
- No simple google sanity check on a major project being over/ under budget

It used to be fun debating - but I'm not sure he's putting in the same level of commitment since he voted.

I hope he gets back on form soon.

Would you prefer a return to the days where GERS showed a 0.3% surplus for Scotland (9.6%-9.3% of UK)? smile

Lol yes they made great use of that and twisted what it meant yet when the data doesn't support what they believe its rubbish. Hmm objective then.

The data is the data, simoid. Take the spin away and that's what's important.

Thanks for your concern, Trouble.

Your interpretation of those recent events is a bit different to mine, but hey ho.

I'm actually amazed this thread is still active. Wiggley's Google Alert service and misguided focus have a lot to say for themselves!

That's fair but you've leaned to and hinted strongly to others that actually lots of what would be Scottish tax revenue is not captured as such its shown within rUK/UK as a whole. You didn't go down the route that it was potentially the other way.

What you've posted doesn't even mean anything - you might as well have told us "it is what it is". Quality insight hehe

So, to the data - do you have any evidence that it is noticeably unfavourable?

Can't help thinking this has been blown out of proportion a wee bit, maybe just some over zealous staff member enforcing the no football shirts rule. I mean the local Rangers fan club meet there can it really be a nationalist hotbed?

If its as reported its a disgrace but I'm no convinced at the moment
Interesting development.

Puts a bit of a different slant on it right enough.

Nope, it explains one brain dead bigot and your inability to separate the actions of one person from a large percentage of the population

I think its fair to say both sides have their vocal extremists but I believe they are in the minority. The majority of unionists and nationalists are regular decent people. OK my personal view is that every nationalist is wrong and that Scotland is better as part of the union but I don't think every single nationalist is a raving racist bigoted ned or indeed that every single unionist is a decent fair minded balanced member of society.

I would of been heart broken if the vote had gone the other way. I would however of tried to make it work, leaving for me would have been a last resort and something I would have tried to avoid.

I posted the update on the Black Bull as I've been in a couple of times albeit years ago and it didnt fit with my memory of the place. Now maybe it did pan out as reported and the charges against this guy are completely separate I think it does show there could be more to this than meets the eye

No need for that.

I'd apologise and remove.

In what sense?

It's a line from a song sung about a gentleman called Bobby Sands MP, making light of the fact that he died whilst on a hunger strike in the early eighties (1981?)....

Nice chap, I reckon you'd have liked him, he spent three years in prison for possessing illegal firearms and promptly colluded to blow a building up once released, real salt of the earth character, deserves the respect of everyone everywhere without a doubt.

I'm not a football fan either, nor brain dead, and as far as football songs go, it's up there with "Dundees got Ebola, na na na, na na" in my book, fairly petty, just like you.
