Where did the term gammon come from?
It came from people going red from high blood pressure. I guess you knew that though. Racists at the Telegraph.co.uk give Meghans book only 1 star out of 5. How dare they.

Not a racial slur but an insult based on the colour of someone's skin. I'd have thought we'd have moved past that in the C21st. I find it amusing that people have so little self awareness, that they continue to use the term despite the irony. Many other possible insults are available.
Its not their natural shade though, its a lifestyle choice, its the breathless, spittle flecked crimson they turn during or after an angerwk about kneeling/Greta/statues. Its fundamentally accurate, and if it gives the aforementioned gammon an excuse to pretend they're being persecuted, then everyone wins. You're sounding very woke, go back to sleep. hyphen said:

A 'semi literate' children's book with no story? Of zero interest to children or anyone else? For £13!https://www.telegraph.co.uk/books/classic-books/be...
It might have made a nice Father's Day present from Meg to Harry but surely no one outside that pair will have any interest?
Hope the publisher didn't pay much or print many copies if all the not so glowing reviews are anything to go by.

What is even more hilarious than the lack of self-awareness are the lengths people go through to justify insulting people for the colour of their skin. Pick another insult. There are loads. Choosing skin colour makes you sound as bad as them. Try to avoid Boomer though. That's ageist.
The thing with insults is that you need to choose one that really upsets the people you're aiming it at, and "gammon" seems to be the most effective. If people stopped complaining about the word "Gammon" people would probably stop using it as an insult.

Uh huh. Works for all insults based on skin colour does it?If people stopped complaining about the word "Gammon" people would probably stop using it as an insult.

Anyway. I must admit I am going against what I decided a few months ago which was to refrain from using the term because some people find it offensive. And I try not to cause offence.

Writing good picture books for small children is far harder than it looks...
Rather than entertainment for children, this reads as a self-help manual for needy parents
...
The story, so lacking in action and jeopardy you half wonder if the writing job was delegated to a piece of furniture
