Can I just add. I dont think it has anything to do with Virgin as such.

It appears to be the Monkey on the gate. who unfortunatley can be anyone from G4S to any number of other contracted staff on the airport.

Virgin have even contacted the RN lass in question to apologise.

Travelling in fatigues though you may not look very tidy she was on duty travel entitled to wear her uniform and more importantly the whole process of getting into the US. customs/immigration/e.t.c if you travel over in fatigues your treated better than 1st class once you land.

Right decision by her. Poor Decision by G4S or other contract clown....Who given I work at the airport more than likely will fit into the category stated by the 3rd poster in this topic....It may not be PC but its more than likely true.

Heading to the US, where being in a service uniform is a good thing, people say hi and respect is shown. No wonder she was in costume, besides, hey it is her job.

I do however think that G4S/flight manager's attititude to what she was wearing was wrong, she was not a threat to safety and as far as I am concerned it is acceptable dress to wear.
US military are required to travel in uniform if going to / from a duty station. The US authorities and airport staff give preferences us personnel in uniform with most queues being jumped, priority boarding and the like. Wearing uniform would be an advantage on arrival in the US.

This was just wrong.
It sounds like she likes the VIP treatment then?
And sounds a lot like she was giving the staff a lot of DYKWIA.

If she really was so aggrieved, why didn't she politely ask to speak to a more senior person?

Doesn't sound like any of that to me, your post is pure conjecture.
