How I'd love to hear a UK Police chief speak to the press like this, but the message is very clear and very true

Couple of points....

If the police had shouted to him "Put your gun down and hands up"....what if he had been deaf?....(Unlikely I know)

Why did the police not just shoot him in the leg, assuming he could have done?

more chance of missing and hitting an innocent person quite some ways away also being shot in the leg doesn't stop you from using a gun in your hand....

It doesn't and as soon as he points a gun at you the second shot takes his head off. The first shot focuses their mind.

Have to say if he went for the gun which wasn't painted in bright colours the officer who shot made a legitimate choice.

Read the other thread about the police shooting in the US. The office hit the suspect 7 times before the guy stopped charging at him. Shooting in the leg is Hollywood dreaming.

Why is it so hard to understand, If you pull a gun on the police, any police force, its not going to end well.

Oh I dunno, in this country a pcso on their push bike it's going to end a bit differently it takes a while to get the guns out over here.

If some one dialed 999 and reported the same 'guy with gun, may or may not be fake' it wouldn't be the pcso they send.

I understand where your coming from tho, the policing in the UK is now a sad state of affairs

FFS. Every time a police shooting is discussed, be it in the UK or the US, this st is trotted out.

Do you have any idea how difficult shooting a pistol is? It's hard enough on a firing range with a static target and no pressure.

They shoot at the centre of mass to give the best chance of nullifying the threat.

And of course a gunshot injury to the leg can be life threatening.
