As an expat who no longer drives to France, can someone explain why the French controls are on the Dover side?
I understand this would not reduce the blockage, but it would shift the parking lot to Calais nes pa.
Something we agreed to (without thinking it through)
The system of placing your border controls in the "other country" would surely stretch the resources of any normal country, even on a good day.
One benefit ( & I realise this sounds a bit UKIP) is that you can stop undesirables getting in at source, rather than having to bear the cost & complexity of dealing with them once they've entered your country, which is why the Mayor of Calais is so keen that the arrangements are revised.I understand this would not reduce the blockage, but it would shift the parking lot to Calais nes pa.

The French seem to think that the UK are somehow responsible for the situation in Calais.
Although normal procedure puts the onus on the Carrier to check the validity on ones entry to a destination, so we have immigration bods sitting in Calais doing the same thing I assume.

10 or 15 hour delays? People sleeping in their cars on the road?
Sorry, but bks! It's nothing like the nonsense they are causing on and around Dover.
Dover is a pinchpoint at the best of times. At the start of school holidays it is even worse. Couple that with increased vigilance and...Sorry, but bks! It's nothing like the nonsense they are causing on and around Dover.
There are dozens of ways to cross into France from Germany, likewise Belgium, Italy etc. and I saw long queues at just four of them. Imagine all that traffic trying to get through one single point, because that's exactly what is happening at Dover.
The French are being tts. People should do a U turn and fk off to Skegness and spend their money there.

I've travelled all over France and most of Europe and I've never had any issues, in fact my view is they are typically more well cultured than your typical english person.
What is a typical English person as apposed to a typical French person.BigLion said:
If you're looking for a dictionary definition or a link to some statistical analysis which you can then pedantically try to counter, be ready to be disappointed - I'm talking about my experience over many decades of travelling.
So you have nothing to back up your assertion about English people and by the way many people have travelled and worked abroad its not unique these daysjohnxjsc1985 said:

I was probably in Luxembourg this morning whilst people where still queuing to get to the terminal.
The French have handled this enhanced security crisis in an appalling manor and in my opinion, this weekends fiasco was just to ps off the Brits.

I'm loving how these goons seem to think they have SO much to offer in their wonderfully culturally enriched nations that us Brits will put up with stunts like this.
So much choice on the inent, granted. Shot or mowed down in France, blown up in Belgium, hatchetted to bits or touched up / raped in Germany? Just so much more choice for your holiday than staying in the UK.

We have just been lucky so far.
Something will happen here it's just a matter of time.
As Nice proves it doesn't have to be another 7/7 type scenario.
Any Western Europe country is at risk.
