Our newest ambassador in the US,,
Discussion
I'm struggling to see what Farage's agenda is here?? He really appears to be sticking his oar in and stirring things up between Trump and May (or maybe that's just the media spinning it). At this stage (after resigning and coming back yet again, but only as interim leader of ukip, steadying the rudder/taking it easy), he should be almost an irrelevance in US - UK relations. So what's he up to?

Angling for a job no doubt, either with the UK government or the US one. Trump has apparently suggested Farage could be his EU ambassador, which would easily be the best bit of political news this year. Which of these men is better fitted to be the intermediary laying the groundwork for May meeting Trump in January or whenever; is it the professional diplomat who has a working relationship with and a direct line to No. 10 and actually lives in Washington, or is it an egotist who could start a fight in an empty room, doesn't live in Washington, doesn't have a direct line or a working relationship with No. 10 and is the leader of a completely different political party to the PM? Suggesting he might do this is tabloid nonsense and Liam 'Werritty' Fox is a bigger eedjit than I gave him credit for if he thought it was a good idea.

Maybe its the man who's party didn't make chidish dismissive comments about Trump and has some understanding and common ground on policy ????don4l said:

I can't work out if there's irony here or not.
It should be obvious. Please name any other politician who did exactly what they promised to do in the last 200 years?
You cannot.
He is an extraordinary success.
If so, then he has indeed delivered. If, on the other hand, he ever promised to get us out of the EU, or that we'd be more successful outside the EU, then to date he has delivered absolutely nothing, and now it looks like the slimy weasel is going to perform that typical politician trick of claiming all the kudos up front, then bugger off out of the firing line when the hard work actually has to be done!
Granted, if leaving the EU is your thing (personally I couldn't care less one way or the other, as it's a trivial red herring compared to other problems facing the country) then without Farage there probably wouldn't have been a referendum, but if you really think that makes him worthy of your adulation, then you've got bloody low expectations, as so far, absolutely nothing tangible has been delivered!

So he got us disintagled from the mess we call the EU and now he is smothing the path for a trade deal with the worlds biggest economy .... Nah not much delivered then If so, then he has indeed delivered. Erm, even without the UK the second biggest economy is the EU https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_...
Except the EU isn't a state in its own right and only has a notional GDP. Each member state has its own, has a different balance of trade with trade partners etc.Murph7355 said:

Trade deals are conducted with EU as an entire entity. I get people don't like them but pretending they don't exist or have to be dealt with is silly.
For how long ??? I don't think its got long as a political construct , do you ??RedWhiteMonkey said:

euro cars, so they play silly buggers and we can and should put a least a 10% import tariff on them

Yeah, that'll work wonders for our negotiations. The last thing you want to do is get into a tit for tat war of import tariffs with an organisation as big as the EU. We are not in a position of power here. They largely hold all the cards.mind apart from the odd van I have no interest in
