if I were on a push bike I would make darn sure I didn't jump red lights
What do you do as a pedestrian? Pedestrians are more vulnerable than cyclists, yet from what I see, experience and of course do myself, at lights controlled crossings once the traffics moved off peds cross the road en masse and don't give a fig for what colour the lights on.Are you the sad loner that stays behind and waits for the green?

Maybe I've missed some vital point here, but the motorist set off when the light was green didn't he? The cyclist went through a red light...
put your cyclist hatred away and imagine it was a little old lady tottering across in front of him. Do you still think he should have just nailed it away from the lights?crankedup said:
Your asking me if I act in a way that endangers myself deliberately or exercise caution. As a grown adult I use my experience to judge what is safe and what is not!
I'm curious to know if you're as darn sure as a pedestrian about red lights as you are as a cyclists, 'cos from what I see just about every pedestrian under the sun walks across a red light when it suits; the PH members amongst us then go online when they can and complain about cyclists doing the same.Digby said:
The way this is going, it sounds like should you jump a red light in your car and a cyclist who went through a green crashes in to the side of you, they are going to pick themselves up and tell you it's their fault.
Everybody that reads these threads comes away with the clear and obvious view that the PH resident cyclist's are not concerned in any way with right/wrong or cause/effect, - they just live in a la-la-land of their own creation where everybody else is responsible for their stupidity. They really are bonkers mad as that world doesn't exist!

No. And get this....because he would have seen her, just as he would have seen someone tottering across pushing their bike.He may have hit her had she run across on a red, though.
And get this also...most people know what happens when a light goes green, which makes vulnerable riders who jump them even more stupid.
According to this report the cyclist was charged for running an amber light - http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/15092040.Saints_s...
I do wonder if the timings of the lights sequencing could have been influencial at putting a vulnerable road user at risk.

he may not have if he wasn't paying proper attention. The point is you need to look before you move. Let's try another one then. Imagine it wasn't a cyclist but an artic. Who's the vulnerable one now? Do you still just drive off without checking the traffic has stopped/is going to stop first because you're 'right'?
You mean who is the stupid one now. Artic driver. It's real easy.Digby said:
So you are saying vulnerable people who don't do all that is required and more to stay alive, are pretty stupid?
Well I'm not sure where you're going with the "and more" but yes I'd generally agree with that and as I said on the last pagepachydermus said:
I'd love to see all red-light runners strung up from the lights
but that doesn't mean we, as motorists, shouldn't be doing "all that is required and more" to try and avoid killing people even if they are often idiots. Pachydermus said:

Or that we, as cyclists, shouldn't be doing all that is required and more to stay alive, even if faced with idiots.Of course as cyclists like to point out (particularly when people mention road tax), cyclists can be motorists too:
