Boris Johnson- Prime Minister (Vol. 3)
Discussion
It'll probably fry Derek's brain too, what with the history element!
The Quillette podcast is bloody good too.

It touches on reasons for leaving, some of the motivation for staying, differences in how the English or British see the world compared to, say, the French. He thinks staying would further damage our economy.

Has anyone ever seen a political leader tank it as much as Johnson in the tellydebate? I expect that his poll lead will go up tomorrow, regardless.
I do not quite buy the idea that Johnson is just there as a flak catcher, who will be dumped after the Tories win the election. But suppose that I am wrong. Who is going to get the gig next? Gove? JRM?
If, as I expect, Labour lose, I do not think that Corbyn will be binned. His fans regard 2017 as a victory. They will just say that what the country needs after twice rejecting Corbyn is more Corbyn, and an even more Corbyny Corbyn at that.

Yes. Swinson. Made Johnson look good. Breadvan72 said:

Not sure. If the rumours of ill health are true, a loss will be the point at which he might choose to step down to spend more time with his cabbagesTuna said:

I don't think he tanked. He floundered for the first 15-20 minutes (under, to be fair, a very hostile audience) but importantly for him hen got his message and themes across at the end quite strongly which I suspect was the main aim.Corbyn struggled a bit as well I thought.
However, if you want tanking, Swinson was unbelievable. I felt sorry for her as there didn't seem to be a single Lib Dem in the audience and the total silence after everything she said was more damning than jeering. She looked hopelessly out of her depth. Talk about little miss no friends.
I suspect the Tories will be worried about her as their GE strategy relies on the Libs not being totally hopeless and stealing a few votes from Labour.
As for Corbyn, he'll be what 76 odd at the next election? If he loses this one he won't be leading in the next even if he sticks around for a while as leader.
Why do you suppose that an audience would be hostile to Johnson? Almost everywhere he goes, he is met with public hostility. The Starksy cardigan racist dogpoo dude is a fan, and Johnson may well have a solid base of voters, so it may well be that his unpopularity with anyone who has looked at more than one website in the last five years does not matter.
Johnson was, BTW, too frit or maybe just CBA to show up at the hustings in his own constituency. What a guy!

I don't blame him for that. Have you ever been to one? A complete and utter waste of time. The local ones are just full of party activists and local councillors. If you get a genuine member of the public there it'll be because they thought Jack & The Beanstalk was on.Oh, and if the audience was a general reflection of the public the Lib Dems won't hold a single seat.

I don't think judging the amount of shouty types you see on TV is necessarily a good barometer.Johnson was, BTW, too frit or maybe just CBA to show up at the hustings in his own constituency. What a guy!

I imagine that it's because you can't please all of the people all of the time.Johnson, Corbyn, Swinson, Farage; whenever they stand up in public they are all subject to some degree of hostility or approbation dependant on the political viewpoint of the people in the audience.
I would have an online "sportsman's bet" with you however, that Johnson attracts more dissent and vitriol when he speaks in public than Corbyn because it tends to be the younger demographic who attend these public addresses.
It's still "cool" to rail against the establishment, and for a lot of younger people all they've known since they've been politically aware is a Conservative government. Add in the tendency of the UK to support the underdog, and also the fact that Corbyn promises solutions to the all UK domestic problems - and for free!!
The demographic who support Boris, (and also dislike Corbyn and his backers), are generally older. They will make their point at the ballot box rather than going out and shouting down an opposing candidate at the local hustings.

It couldn't possibly be anything to do with activist audience fixing? Shades of plants in 2017, and that's not a reference to the shadow cabinet..Breadvan72 said:

You're doing well to monitor responses to Boris almost everywhere.Murph7355 said:

Funny how the audience was a several degrees of order of magnitude more hostile to the disheveled guy than they were to Magic Grandpa, or wee nippy or the horse faced woman....
I'm sure Order Order will be all over it if the audience was biased and not everyone can be a full on "get em out supporter can they?
Personally I don't think Johnson did too badly in so much as he wasn't as much of a rambling shambolic mess as he usually is.
I do find it funny how, when an audience calls him out on his lies and racially and religiously charged past remarks, they simply must be plants.
I guess we're just that used to it by now.

Boris is still the most popular leader and the only one with a positive approval rating (at least for now)
Looking forward to a TV audience which reflects the national picture. It may include some of BV's unicorns.

- Ipsos Mori poll says Labour is less fit to govern, more divided and more extreme than in 2017
- half of those surveyed said Boris Johnson was the most capable Prime Minister whereas just three in ten said the same for Corbyn
- only 23% of the 1,228 respondents said they liked Corbyn, compared with just under half who liked Johnson
- the Labour image has worsened in terms of understanding Britain’s problems, which was down seven points compared with two years ago
