My pub is still open but others in the local area have been receiving abuse/threats from nutters online, so we're only publicising the fact locally.

Support your locals folks, even if you only pop in or grab a takeaway, assuming the govt don't shut things down completely.

Pub last night was fairly quiet.

Got to the curry house before it closed - only one other table being used. Owner told us it's usually rammed on a Thursday - he'd had 40 bookings, all cancelled. He said they're usually full Friday / Saturday - this week, not a single booking.

Nice curry, but how much longer they'll be open I have no idea.....

Taxi driver also said it's completely dead.

I don’t wish to appear to be overly negative and I am a supporter of pubs, but I do not see how beer gardens and hatch serving resolve the problem. I’m thinking virus transmission via glasses and cutlery/chinaware.
The local village pub where my lad lives are offering take a way pub grub and currently still serving in the pub for as long as permitted.
The glasses and tables that others have sat at worry me.

I'm 57 pretty fit but had a heart attack 10 years ago. I don't want this bug.

I live on my own and commute to work in my car/on my bike.

We are temp checked at the entrance. High temp and you can't come in. Place is deep cleaned every night.

I was supposed to meet two mates today for lunch. A pub in a busy area of London. I suddenly realised that I have been effectively avoiding the masses and it would be a daft thing to do.

I've declined.

It's all very well sitting 2m apart but a cough or a sneeze can go a long way and with talk of this virus being able to live on hard surfaces for 24 hours........

No wonder this thing is so bloody contagious.

You do realise that the temps in a commercial dishwasher kill everything. Moreover, as a matter of course, food service staff are told to cough / sneeze into tissue, bin it and wash their hands. This is long before The Virus, as it's just good hygiene.

I'd be concerned about 'catching something' from the asymptomatic infected punters, not the crockery.
Yes I understand that, it is the punters that are the risk my concern would be the interim period from customer use left on tables, collection from tables to washing. I’m not against pubs or restaurants at all, I support them as a punter and investor, but the truth is they are both, along with most other venues, a transmission threat.
Our son works in our local and is considering quitting.
One of the rougher regulars has been sweating and coughing the last couple of nights (& went to a packed gig last weekend) - son is convinced he has it. Clearly doing all he can to keep away, but it is a small public bar. Landlord does nothing.

I think you make a wise move. I would say the same.

It was fairly quiet last night, but our usual 5 were in attendance. Landlord was bemoaning the lack of trade but he said they have had a really good twelve months so he should be OK (Craft Union free house).

I'm a bit woozy this morning but we shall meet up as usual tonight for our Friday chew-the-cud, and put the world to rights.

Anyone else hoping they pick it up just to get it out the way? I know I am.

Penny's dropped, they've made a choice, please don't condescend. The fact not everyone will call a total halt to their lives has been accommodated into the Gov planning. Was just reading yesterday about threats to a pub landlord who advertised his pub as - quite legally - still open. Twitter sewer says hang him! This is how it starts.... .

I personally haven't been to the pub yet, but whether I do or not I shall consider aspects of hygiene and social distancing and if I think it no worse than my local supermarket then the dog and I will call for a pint.

Or two.

Sort of, although worried about my heart problem. Problem is, that without being tested, you have no idea if you actually have it or one of the hundreds of coughs, colds etc that are knocking around.

Over here in Canada (I am in Toronto) pretty much all restaurants and pubs are closed,as well as many non-Essential stores. Ditto in some major parts of the US such as California and Massachusetts. No sports.

Toronto is ghostly now. No traffic and no nightlife.

No idea when I will be able to go out for a beer.

I was but then I realised I don't really want it with asthma and each individual is potentially passing it on so multiple others which is the whole idea of social distancing, so I feel it's reasonable to say this attitude is part of that problem that could kill people.

I see no issue if you go to the pub and are sensible. Distancing, obviously and hand sanitizing often.

The problem is, not everyone has that common sense approach, hence the Govt advice of don't go out.

What attitude? If you're isolating properly how will you pass it on? If I ask you if you had to contract it now or later which would you pick? Honestly? I'd certainly go for sooner, get it over with, then I can look after my mum and stop worrying I'll infect her.

I went for a beer with a couple mates only last Friday, like I always do. Pub was busy in a 'last chance' kinda way.

This week though? No. My birthday too, but no.

What a shame it's not an attack by bombs, missiles and guns. I'd then love for you to put yourself out there for getting hit first and taking it for the rest of us.

Unfortunately, your actions this time are selfish not selfless.

One of the biggest problems is the incubation period of this virus, up to two weeks before symptoms
display means you are passing on the virus without knowing it. This is why Social distancing and hand washing so important apparently.

Promoting Tim Martin as somebody worth listening to about anything will cost this country dearly over the coming months.
