World Athletics transgender women ban
Discussion
R4 had the Guardian sports correspondent on last night.
Suspect that they thought they might get an argument going by choosing a correspondent from a liberal lefty paper with a record on trans rights (see how their staff hounded out Suzanne Moore)
He said the IOC have chosen the principle of 'fairness' over 'inclusiveness'.
Not exactly a mic drop but a perfect summary for me.

The sensible thing to do would be to scrap the male/female categories and people as individuals compete to see who is the best/quickest/strongest at any one sport.
Full equality for all.
well no because then 50% of the worlds athletes would be locked out of sportFull equality for all.

If I identify as Tea Pot I still exist even if you do not agree I am a tea pot.
The trouble arises when I fully embrace your self-identification as a teapot, pour three heaped teaspoons of Lasang Souchong up your nose followed by half a pint of freshly boiled water and expect you to produce several cups of delicious smoky aromatic black tea from your spout.Rufus Stone said:

Perhaps they scrap outdated gender categories and just go with very simple to understand 'penis' and 'non penis' categories.
Would this be just those with penis assigned at birth or include those that acquired one at a later date? The absolute state of you two.

Funny isn't it how both supporters and opponents see the other side as abandoning reason.
And yet, as evidenced on this thread, you have a 'debate' that can be summarised as:
'I support trans people but it's a complex matter and I trust the decision was made carefully.'
Versus
'Finally some sanity in a world gone mad! Trans women aren't women.'
Imagine the comments if the decision had gone the other way.
Funnily enough I don't think a single person has said that. And yet, as evidenced on this thread, you have a 'debate' that can be summarised as:
'I support trans people but it's a complex matter and I trust the decision was made carefully.'

This all gets a lot of airtime and I can see why, but are their legions of trans women wanting to compete in various sports ? I have heard of a swimmer and a weightlifter, are there many more ?
That would be far too rational a topic for this thread. This all gets a lot of airtime and I can see why, but are their legions of trans women wanting to compete in various sports ? I have heard of a swimmer and a weightlifter, are there many more ?

Why do we have to have this rubbish on every single thread on what's a difficult subject to always get right?
The absolute state of you two.
Because life doesn't have to be serious all the time. The absolute state of you two.
