I work in financial services in Toronto fwiw. People here are stting themselves over here at the prospect of a trade war - the economy is completely reliant on exporting to the US, it makes up over half of our exports.

Further to previous I hadn't realised quite how fked Mexico is. And how the US' appetite for narcotics is one of the main reasons. The US has a rampant drug problem it needs to get a handle on. IMO, that would be a better way to focus attention to the issues at the border. I think we're sheltered from the full extent of the situation in North and South America. Drugs and organised crime are having a massive impact which is going to be a nightmare to address. Get to thinking that legalising some of it may be the only way.

That brings us full circle back to why Trump and the MAGA dullards think lobbing a wall up would be a good way to address it. What a fking mess.

Mexico is a very fked up place, even after the Spring Breakers left. I read the other day that in the last 9 months 122 local political candidates had been assassinated by the cartels; they are also deeply embedded in the US for distribution and Columbia for production, which is back on the up.

USA will never admit the way they treat everything below their border, so it'll be a running, pustulous sore for the rest of their existence.

I'm looking at it and the word "Afghanistan" comes to mind. Given how interventionist the US is, amazing it's allowing such a ststorm on its doorstep.

Happy to have a joint World Cup with them and Canada (both of whom he is now in a trade war with) though that Trump worked so hard to get laugh

Because when something bad comes to light it presents an opportunity for someone in power to say ‘wait a minute this doesn’t feel right, we’ll fix it’. He’s just arguing that it’s not a problem of his creation and therefore it’s not his problem, it is, he is president, he can do something about it and he initially claimed he could not which as we all know is bks. He made an already existing problem worse and then argued he was powerless to change things, well that simply cannot be true, if you can worsen a problem you can unworsen it!
Not really. The border is a long running problem. Trump wants proper long term solutions not sticky plasters which don't work.

Adult comes in illegally with a child they get let go.
Adult comes in without a child they are detained.

Seem fair?

Wait... when did fairness become one of your principles?

Will you be using this principle to discuss Trump in future comments?

Utter horsest. That idiot wants his wall, he will do anything to get his ridiculous project funded up to and including imprisoning children.

roportion of Americans killed by illegal immigrants against Americans killed by legally held guns?

(It’s tiny, in case you were wondering)
why is the proportion important at all? Some of the illegal immigrants are up to no good, and that's a fact regardless if it was 1/10 1/100 or 1/1000.

I understand nearly all of them are in desperate situation but countries are not social services. Needless to say it's quite unfair to all of those going through all the hassle to come the legal way.

Go look up the concept of 'proportional response'. You might want to remind yourself of the concept of 'racist s' as well.

how is that racist if 90% of those illegals are caucasian? What's the point of borders if anyone could just cross it illegally without any consequences?

It’s important because people like you and Trump use a tiny proportion of murderous illegal immigrants to tar all of them. They are human, so a small number of them are bad people.

To be fair, that extrapolation is not exclusive to this thread. Look at any brexit thread.
