David Cameron is in Scotland on a surprise visit today, after getting lost and taking a wrong turn at Carlisle.
The Prime Minister had been scheduled to cut the ribbon on a new Tesco Extra in Dalston when the travel flap happened.
A source close to the Tory leader said: "It was just like that bit in Die Hard when Bruce Willis realises he's just walked into the middle of an almighty s***storm. We considered doing a sharp U-turn and flooring it till we were over the border and had reached somewhere safe. Like Staffordshire. But we decided it was too risky and people might have become suspicious."
It is understood Tesco drafted in Diana Beard from the Great British Bake Off at the last minute.
Speaking from a secure location, where the Prime Minister is being given refuge until nightfall when the SAS will attempt a rescue mission, the source added: "We've tried to avoid Scotland during the referendum, what with the PM being as popular as diarrhoea in dungarees up here. But someone decided they knew better than the SatNav and we were in Hawick before we realised.
"It's been a traumatic experience. We don't even have any food with us. We were thinking of sending a special adviser to Waitrose undercover but we didn't have any tartan or heroin syringes to make him fit in with the locals. They probably only sell deep-fried asparagus up here anyway."
Asked for a comment, First Minister Alex Salmond said: "YES WE WILL HAVE THE POUND. ALISTAIR DARLING SAID SO. YOU'RE WORSE THAN FAISAL ISLAM!!!"
He then proceeded to place his fingers in his ears and sing "la la la la la la" for several minutes.
Ahhh. seems to be the alternative view, giving us a laugh!

Scotland for Business (i.e., Yesser) bod on R4 this morning claiming that Scottish businesses are charged to use UK embassies abroad for trade services/facilities etc while businesses from the rest of the UK are not.
A total bare faced lie. BBC has just confirmed as such.
(Faor the record, as an English business I can confirm that we are also charged for using embassy services, and the fees we are charged are the same as those levied on Scottish businesses.)
It seems the YES camp just make things up as they go along, and hope that those gullible enough will just soak it up..

1hr 14minutes in a spokesman for business for scotland turns up
oh wait a minute
2hr 21minutes 30 seconds
The rome embassy got in touch and said
Total 100% bks
Oh look they are lying AGAIN
So do we all agree if its a Yes vote that zero over spending can happen in Scotland from that date to separation as its clear they will not honour the debt and we will not give a currency Union.
So what is the gap currently? Oh yes £10billion a YEAR overspending so where will the axe fall? Close all the schools and um stop benefits state pension or housing benefit/dole/working tax credit/disability credit lets?
A serious question just how and what would SNP cut instantly to balance the b

You seem to think it is sensible to allow another country to build up further debts in your name after telling you they will not pay it?
Salmond is the moron ditto anyone who believes the tosh he sprouts.

Lots of jobs for the north of England; no more paying over the odds in sweeteners to keep the jocks happy; very little chance of Liebour ever getting in power again; no more 'is he British or is he Scottish' conversations when deciding whether or not to celebrate an Andy (dourest man in Europe) Murray win, and cost savings when HS2 is built - we just stick a set of buffer stops in at Carlisle and jobs a good'un.

We'll get shafted when they default but if we're spunking billions at them anyway, it shouldn't take too long to make that back in savings should it? Factor in all the feel-good about the rejuvenation of the rUK as you mention - huge numbers of public sector jobs (and skilled jobs such as shipbuilding), scrapping massive renewables subsidies - certainly in the short term - and we can redistribute the additional cash that was being drained back into rUK communities.
The ejection of 40+ Labour MPs from Parliament would be the icing on the cake. I'm really starting to hope it happens - not because of any schadenfreude toward Scotland but because I really think it could be fantastic for the English, Welsh and N. Irish.

John Redwood wrote a few weeks ago that in the unlikely event of a yes vote rUK will take only three years to be back at where it is now as the full UK. Scotland will languish for years apparently. We'll get shafted when they default but if we're spunking billions at them anyway, it shouldn't take too long to make that back in savings should it? I'm in the North East of England, we would love their jobs and wealth coming here, be more than welcome! They'll only be a short drive up the A1 when they want to visit their poorer relatives.
Chatting with a friend of mine last week about the Scottish Question revealed an interesting (to me, at least) fact - his employers (an oil/gas/sea infrastructure co) have already started proceedings to reduce or even leave their offices in Aberdeen. They don't want to be around in the event of Scottish independence.
If other major companies are looking at doing this too it'll be a major blow to the Jocks.

The damage the vote has done for jobs and business is notable and yet they don't see it! Change incurs risk especially if the change is highly questionable and leaders confirming defaulting on debt..... No thanks. If other major companies are looking at doing this too it'll be a major blow to the Jocks.
Their line our closest friends south of the boarder - heck I d hate to see how they treat their enemies.... Debt default giving every rUK man woman and child a £35k debt which they are having a jolly on the no assets no liabilities argument is tosh as the asset is being received now in benefits so they get the assets enjoy them and walk away - nice neighbours (40%).
Actually I'd like to see how many of the Yes voters would regardless of currency union pay up their element of the debt. Those voters I have respect for the yes and walk away from debt meh.

Indeed - could we see businesses bugging out of Scotland even if the vote is no.....afterall the nats are likely to pull this stunt again, especially if their defeat is narrow. The prospect of future uncertainty may well make some businesses reconsider their position regardless.
Devolution is a bad idea anyway. You start handing out powers like Westminster has done to keep the peace, and you just know its gonna lead to something like this.
More wants more, and you'll always end up with over egoed helmets like Salmond sticking their heads above the parapet and fking it up for everybody.
