Give us a fracking break!

it's all a bit concerning...
Fracking has been happening for decades, it only became concerning when deluded Greens read that there were significant UK shale deposits and didn't want the UK to have cheap energy so people can afford to heat their homes and businesses can compete, because it might mean that the UK would be further away from meeting its pointless EU-inspired targets for carbon-based economic suicide. turbobloke said:

So the word on the green is that the MOD have given Cuadrilla permission to take their wagons across HMS Inskip which would mean that the Roseacre wood site has effectively been given a green light - we'll see what happens from here, I'm as equally worried about our village being turned into some kind of Greenham Common camp than I am of the fracking machinery etc...
The anti frackers do have a history of causing more mess and disruption then the fracking they are protesting againstMcWigglebum4th said:

The anti frackers do have a history of causing more mess and disruption then the fracking they are protesting againstI see Frack Free Wales are mentioned in the posted link and I've met some of them.
The conversation usually goes like this.
FFW: "You can't just drill loads of holes in the ground. Earthquakes, polluted water, fluffy bunnies etc"
Me: "What about the old coal mines? Dug years ago, no casing, not so well regulated, what happened then?"
FFW" "Ooh, that's different"
Also strange how Maggie is detested for closing all the mines and making everyone unemployed and Cameron is almost equally detested for wanting to start Fracking operations thus causing a lot of extra employment.

Very strange at the fact Labour closed more mines then Maggie ever did.The conversation usually goes like this.

Also weird that the greens got there way with nuclear power plants not being built, however if they were built back then we would not need to frack now.
Also if we don't frack, power prices will rise and the same people will be complaining about this, despite the fact we have to buy most of our resources in, fracking will help stop this, but thats not the point.

Maggie & Cameron are evil Tory scum and it will be all their fault when we are sitting in the dark with no heating that we won't be needing because of the man made global warming they caused.

Is fracking safe? = Yep
Would having you as neighbour be safe ? = Yep
Would i want you as a neighbour? = Nope as the flags and constant screaming of freeeddddoooommmmm and "its not fair" as well as " i blame >insert this weeks oppressor<" being shouted from the rooftop would be exceedingly fking annoying.
Would i want a fracking operation next to me = nope as all the HGVs, diesel pumps and late night working would be annoying.
Infact if you actually read the article you will realise the rich person (quick everyone hate the rich) is trying to stop the fracking because of the noise. NOT any safety issues
But i would rather have fracking next to me then wind turbines.
Oh wait i do have wind turbines next to me after those wkers down south over turned the democratic decision of the local council.
As all the face paint has got to your head. Just because something is safe does not mean people want it next to them. But you are just too steeped in your lefty wk world to see this.
There has been more recorded fatalities in europe due to wind turbines then due to fracking
Any thoughts on that?
Personally, I'm more for the development of tidal-power, with it being a hell of a lot more consistent than relying on a windy day (two tides everyday, every single day of the year). Wind turbines are just an added bonus. On an aesthetic front, I quite like the look of wind turbines, they have an almost majestic quality to them, which in time (over the next couple of hundred years) will become quaint in their appearance - just like the windmills of yesteryear became.Would having you as neighbour be safe ? = Yep

Ze Germans suddenly realise that their decision to can nuclear energy has bitten them in the bum.turbobloke said:

Nail on head.Show the Greens something that works and they'll do their damnest to put a spanner in the works. Show them something that doesn't work (wind, solar etc., you get my drift) and they'll think it's the best thing since sliced bread. If they really want to go down their route, they should give up their modern lifestyle: no cars, no electricity, no gas, no mains water, no mains sewerage, live off the land without relying on producers, distributers and shops, make their own clothes and houses / mud huts... I wonder how long they'd last like that.

I am reminded of a woman who was the head of a virulent anti-vivisection group who was unfortunately stricken with cancer. She readily accepted the cancer fighting drugs, all of which had been tested on animals. On being challenged about this apparent hypocrisy, she retorted that she personally needed to take the drugs and to survive in order to carry on with the good fight.Show the Greens something that works and they'll do their damnest to put a spanner in the works. What bugs me is the 'it's not 100 percent perfect' argument.
They'll say "fracking won't reduce energy prices / create jobs / will run out eventually anyway" ergo we shouldn't bother.
Renewable energy isn't 100 percent perfect either but you don't see them dismissing that on the same basis.

What utterly dire writing;Grauniad said:
Germany has proposed a draft law that would allow commercial shale gas fracking at depths of over 3,000 metres, overturning a de facto moratorium that has been in place since the start of the decade...
...Commercial fracking for shale gas and coal bed methane would be banned at levels below 3,000 metres, but allowed for exploration purposes at shallower levels, subject to the assessment of the expert panel.
That doesn't make any sense regardless of how many times you read it. Do they not do proof reading anymore? They must have sacked all the sub-editors. ...Commercial fracking for shale gas and coal bed methane would be banned at levels below 3,000 metres, but allowed for exploration purposes at shallower levels, subject to the assessment of the expert panel.

Renewable energy (solar/wind) is useless on its own because there needs to be an equal amount of generating capacity to meet demand when it's dark and/or there's no wind. Shale gas is one heck of a lot cleaner than coal and, along with nuclear for base load, would be ideal to meet our needs for hundreds of years to come or until nuclear fusion becomes a practicality. They'll say "fracking won't reduce energy prices / create jobs / will run out eventually anyway" ergo we shouldn't bother.

What is the new kid is horizontal drilling which allows you to go along the shale instead of going through it in a vertical plane.
So instead of having 100 foot of shale you can have thousands of feet.
What they can do with horizontal drilling is utterly stunning

Directional drilling isn't new either really; Good ol' Saddam invaded Kuwait on the pretext the cheeky Kuwaitis were nicking his oil by drilling sideways across(under?) the border, the scamps. The difference is the precision with which the string can be placed has gradually improved to the point that it can be 'flown' along even a narrow band of productive shale which might be only 10m deep.it isn't
