Elon Musk $41B offer for Twitter
Discussion

Shocked that you won’t accept the evidence.
There are none so blind etc
We should all just form the opinions we're told to?There are none so blind etc
No, I look at 'evidence' and draw my own conclusions, which I have articulated.
Is anyone here interested in discussion, or do you all just want to argue??

Righto mate. Sealioning is so boring.
I had to look that up.You think one quick question in direct response to someone's claim is sealioning?
Righto!!

Basically I think we are all mostly in agreement that Musks companies push tech forward, Space X (rockets are cool), starlink, even Tesla, however Musk himself seems a very flawed individual with some very dodgy racist/white supremacist views, which he likes to spout regularly on twitter/X, or promote similar accounts promoting similar views - v=because 'free speech'.
So free he killed community notes correcting him
Worth adding in that the main reason those companies have been successful is due to the American government pouring truckloads of money into the companies, via subsidies, grants, contracts and policies. So free he killed community notes correcting him
Someone else mentioned it before but he’s the modern day PT Barnum, his main talent is extracting money from other peoples pockets.
The best thing about his acquisition of Twitter is we’ve been able to witness someone fall down the right wing conspiracy rabbit hole in real time.

What you've done is not "one quick question", so yes it is; in the time taken to do your sealioning you could have read the first and last few pages of the thread and grasped the salient points.
It was one quick question but instead of answering it, people questioned my right to ask it. It would have been much quicker for all involved to just answer my one quick questionUnfortunately I've then had to constantly defend myself from people like you that insist on fighting and arguing, rather than just focus on the very simple and perfectly reasonable question I asked.
I'm really puzzled as to why so many have taken this personally and turned it into an argument.
What am I missing? Is this an Elon Musk hate thread and I came in neutral, so I'm the enemy?
Very weird...but maybe I've just forgotten what this place is like and my expectations of actual discussion were misguided.

Spacex Starship just achieved orbital flight
Talk about an understatement regarding what SpaceX has just achievedGiven the timescale and amount of money ploughed into the project they are miles behind where they should be.

People answered your question straight away and provided evidence.
What discussion did you think would come when you knocked the answers and evidence back?
I’m not going to waste time trying to convince someone who doesn’t want to see.
People are allowed to hold differing opinions. What discussion did you think would come when you knocked the answers and evidence back?
I’m not going to waste time trying to convince someone who doesn’t want to see.
It's not my duty to believe things you tell me, neither is it your duty to convince me. It was supposed to be a conversation involving the sharing and discussion of opinions, and the reasons behind them.
I was presented an opinion... I responded with my own and the reasons behind them. That's what a discussion is.
I wasn't presented with objective facts but people seem to think that I was and therefore by disagreeing with the opinion I'm somehow refuting reality.
Despite my efforts, most of this recent discussion has been personal comments or defense from said comments, rather than discussing the actual topic.
Thats a shame.

The thing is mate, you’re not asking us to discuss. You’re asking us to regurgitate.
It’s boring and a waste of time when you could go look yourself and get involved.
It was asked in good faith and in direct response to someone saying he is a bad person. This isn't an 'Elon's a bad person' thread...I was just responding to someone posting their opinion and not asking for regurgitation as I didn't even know there was 'evidence' earlier in the thread to regurgitate?!It’s boring and a waste of time when you could go look yourself and get involved.
I did also have a quick scroll but didn't see anything...

The booster stage impacted into the ocean at ~2x the speed of sound, and the orbiter burned up on re-entry as its wasn't stabilised and was rotating on its axis. Since only one side of the orbiter only has heat tiles on, it wasn't properly protected from the heat generated.
Given the timescale and amount of money ploughed into the project they are miles behind where they should be.
Turns out space travel is hard. Given the timescale and amount of money ploughed into the project they are miles behind where they should be.
You can't just shout Huzzah, throw a few million at it and expect a reusable space vehicle.

Maybe there is more to it that people who work or worked at NASA understand.

He might be a racist, misogynistic, homophobic bully but he’s probably not a bad person
Here we go again :snigger:I suppose asking you to support your claims that he is racist, homophobic and misogynistic is out of the question?
I'm happy with page numbers or page ranges and to do the the reading myself if you pioint me in the right direction but if you're stating these things as if they are factual, then surely you must have stuff in mind?
...and again I'm being genuine...I don't care about him or follow his exploits much but I've also never seen him say anything particularly bad.
I'm curious because he seems a very divisive figure.

There is no point asking this question. ZedLeg has decided he is a "bad person" so that's that. Although ZedLeg is so judgemental, he could probably rival the Archangel Gabriel.I suppose asking you to support your claims that he is racist, homophobic and misogynistic is out of the question?
..
Whilst most sensible people realise, every person is a mix of 'good' and 'bad', so arguments as to who is a "good person" or a "bad person" are so reductionist, they reveal more about the naivety of the person making such claims.
