We have loads of AONB's round us, but even a similar length walk across Cannock Chase doesn't really compare.
CC is rammed nowadays, i just want the shops to open so they can FRO.
MX bikes riding about the place last weekend I heard too. Police need to jump on that before someone/something is seriously hurt.

One might have hoped that Jess Phillips may have understood that no one was criticising people undergoing chemotherapy.

Basically, any form of dissent from accepted cannon is to be squashed.

This reflects the mess we are in as a society. But most of all, it is funny.
What it shows is that a large proportion of society are thick as pig excrement

A great piece of writing from 'an Irish rationalist', Ewan MacKenna. Quite a long read, but sums things up well I think.

"Back in March, a virologist that lectures at a major UK university muttered a stark warning. They asked to remain anonymous based on what they were suggesting around those they work alongside, but the message should’ve been clear and should’ve set off warning lights."

“My concern is that they will give medical scientists control. You have to understand that medical scientists are well meaning but they have no concept of real life. They don’t socialise, they are obsessed with germs, they think the world lives a grossly unhealthy lifestyle, they don’t think people should be in large groups ever. If a kid at their kid’s school has a cold, they keep their own kid off school for two weeks. So, if you let medical scientists have control, they will shut this country down for two years. It’s just in their nature. They won’t understand the problems that go with that thus they will carry on regardless.”

Melbourne back into lockdown.

To prevent the spread of an outbreak of the UK strain....

Now I thought Oz basically weren't allowing people in or out unless you spent along time and a lot of money in quarantine.

Yet...the virus is there and circulating from all the way over here? What am I missing?

Also, reading that report, the Aussie government are even more hysterical than we are.
It's all coming here. Zero COVID. You watch. "Wait three weeks!" Move the goalposts. "It's no biggie!" Repeat.

BBC presenter Neil Oliver talks logically about the madness of continued lockdown... worth watching, Neil sums up politicians down to a tee, brilliant! Hope the link works, I realise Facebook isn't everyone's thing...

His has been a voice of reason in all of this I think.

I am impressed that a long-haired arty-history type applies such critical thinking to the situation. He could so easily have been the sort of media luvvie who was part of the problem and, in fact, he is very much concerned with the ordinary person. biggrin

Historians can be good people for clear thinking. They appreciate where we have come from and the mistakes we should be learning from.

I think what I said a few pages back is carrying some weight, they are switching to LFT, and so the numbers come down... numbers down, claim vaccine victory...
Vaccine victory is there when numbers dropping dead and going to hospital falls significantly. The type of test used isn't going to change that....
Imagine my shock when old people start to die from old age rather than from Covid again.

Yes, I agree, they really ought to be, but sometimes these media figures can be more academic/establishment than actual historian/scientist.

Anyway, I've seen a few videos he's done and really admire the way he's been so outspoken on this.

Imagine a world where old people die of a seasonal respiratory virus..........

This is how I expect the pandemic to end - covid19 will be just another respiratory virus we die of with seasonal boosters that sometimes fail because they guessed the wrong variant.

Amazing how we defeated it just before the money ran out.

They describe the uk strain as hyper-infectious.

It all goes to prove that zero covid is nigh on impossible to achieve unless you shut off from everything forever.
All down to one person using a nebuliser in their quarantine room apparently.
