It gets better;

We will work with trade unions and
employers to make creative jobs
accessible for all, ensuring diversity
in these industries so that everyone
sees themselves represented on
screen and on stage. We will review
the copyright framework to ensure
fair remuneration for artists and
content creators.

Has anyone noticed a lack of diversity in any recent 'cultural' event that might reflect this statement? Although having said that, if I self identify as 'hatstand' from hereon I'd like to see 'hatstand' represented in Eastenders. Tomorrow.

Good luck with copyright work, although I think the UK is pretty good at that already? Certainly judging by the fees we were charged for trademark stuff a few years ago...

Why are you all using facts

There should be no loss of personal allowance and actually, there should be one rate of tax that applies to income, dividends, CGT, etc to remove the incentive for those with a choice as to how they declare their income to do so in the most tax efficient manner.

But that's not a vote winner for labour as it doesn't pull on emotional heartstrings in easy soundbites
facts - your suggestion is labour policy

https://labour.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/F...

Pages 33-34
They want to keep the loss of personal allowance for those earning over 100k it would appear ? So the high marginal rate of tax for those earning just over 100k p.a. remains. But the rest I like. .
Not entirely clear - on p34
"There are several reasons why this could be an underestimate, including that:
 It does not incorporate the removal of the personal allowance for earners earning over £100,000."

But I can't see anything that explicitly says this odd anomaly will be removed.

That’s how it should work, sadly most seem to be stuck with a 1970’s mindset it seems. Unions can work well, as in your place of work and proven in the Japanese work culture.
Indeed. I worked for a local authority for 6 months after uni. I say worked, I did less work there than at uni which took some doing. Unison went on strike when I was there, I went to work and did nothing as always, apparently they deserved paying more for not doing anything all day, well the days they weren’t sick. I’m not sure any services were affected.

And when their numbers have dwindled, the tax burden will be reaped from electric cars instead.
No new roads, but a large increase in population through immigration; the workers will walk or the rich ones can cycle.

And here's where we jump the shark;

The next Labour government will transform people’s lives for the better through the biggest extension of workers’ rights in history. We will give working people a voice at the Cabinet table by establishing a Ministry for Employment Rights.
We will start to roll out sectoral collective bargaining across the economy, bringing workers and employers together to agree legal minimum standards on a wide range of issues, such as pay and working hours, that every employer in the sector must follow. Sectoral collective bargaining will increase wages and reduce inequality. This will also stop good employers being undercut by bad employers.

- that looks like a biggy. Fingers in everyone's pie. Central bargaining for whole swathes of UK PLC.

And this;

• Introducing a legal right to collective consultation on the implementation of new technology in workplaces.

- written by Mr. Ludd?

Makes sense. Imagine if Automation becomes widespread, lots of people not working and not paying tax. Revenue protection.

It could have been any one of the Luddites. It's brilliant, roll us back a few decades and keep us there. And in writing for posterity

Except it doesn't. As other economies allow it and gain the efficiency and competitive advantage.

Think in the same mindset as Mcdonnell rather than a capitalist pig biggrin

If you keep that sort of speak up you'll be sent for, uhh, "retraining" wink

Automation is already widespread. It has made us rich and safe and healthy and comfortable.

Automation is the absolute dog's bks and is absolutely key to our prosperity. As anyone who drinks superb quality milk at £1.50 for 6 pints will attest.

It's usually people who's only job(s) have involved shining seats who spout that sort of crap.

As Speckled Jim says, automation and robotics are everywhere. The mechanisation of labour has been ongoing since one man mowing, was replaced by a horse-drawn mower, which was replaced by a tractor driven one and so forth. It is the principal means of increasing labour productivity and the investment is vital.

Short term political targets and, especially, taxation uncertainty for business has crippled UK investment of late. We need to embrace and encourage automation, not fear it.

Mentioned in the "election" thread, and yes, it is a huge attack on the motorist.
It bewilders me as to why there is any support for Corbinov on a motoring enthusiast forum such as PH.

Not sure that's down to automation - more like the supermarkets screwing farmers (though it's probably more complex in practice than either of those)
