It beggars belief. Swinney could have scored a massive win here at absolutely zero cost but instead chooses to mire himself in the same st that his predecessor did.
I was thinking about this earlier,

They're about to get absolutely stcanned in the next 6 weeks anyway - at some level they must know and accept this. So there's no political capital to gain really - 8 seats or 11, they're gone. No point in sacrificing one of their own now.

SNP MSPs and MPs contribute to central party funds. Binning Matheson off would mean the SNP losing money, and they're desperate for every penny.

It just boils down to protecting their own rather than doing the right thing. Like so many decisions they make.

The Herald reckon if the votes were as per the most recent poll Stephen Flynn would narrowly lose his seat. A. Scottish Portillo moment.

SNP supporter on Radio Scotland asked what SNP MOs have achieved for Scotland in the last 5 years.

" A call for a ceasefire in Gaza"

Anyone else enjoy hearing Kate Forbes being skewered by Mishal Husain on Radio 4 at half past seven this morning?

Oh my. Oh my my. Oh dearie me. I would be so deeply saddened at the loss of such a gargantuan political figure.

Has medical science advanced to the point of synthetic livers yet? I fear my own will have to go into hibernation for a couple of years following the forthcoming demise of the SNP.

Was only some 650 seats in it last time, but boundary change and with everyone hating the tories more than usual even with the SNP dislike now too the SNP expected to win. No idea who to vote for tbh

My Constituency too.

SNP candidate.

Grossly overweight and constantly ill (connected?)
Follows the Party trans line and all that bks.
Best that SNP could put forward, nearest rival was full on 'Check his electronic devices'!

Tory candidate

Local Vet, Council Leader, defines a Woman as 'Adult Human Female'
Seems very dynamic and connected to the World.
Impressed even the local Tory old guard who don't even speak to Douglas Ross as he's a Cattleman to trade....

Last election I was leafleting for the SNP, now, for the first time ever I'll likely vote Tory, whilst holding my nose, ONLY to keep the SNP and their crooks and Perverts out.

He's a no-mark. A nothing. Completely dispensable and with probably little-to-no long term effects on him or his family who will be well taken care of by the public pension fund thanks to his very long yet anonymous parliamentary service.

It beggars belief. Swinney could have scored a massive win here at absolutely zero cost but instead chooses to mire himself in the same st that his predecessor did.

Mind boggling political ineptitude.
He probably knows the dirty on them all...keep your friends close and keep your enemies closer as they say.

If he threw his family under the bus before no telling what he'll do to next to save his arse.

I strongly suspect (and hope) once it really all starts falling apart for them post election there will be some that don't keep their mouths shut when the blame game really starts, might even be a book from a retiree or two. Might turn out campervans and the like are the least of their worries.

You would hope so. But there is 2026 Holyrood seats to fight for. If the consituency seats for Holyrood are decimated the SNP will be getting a lot of list MSPs. All of a sudden that cunning plan to give BAME or "disabled" candidates the right to first place on the list might be questioned. A lot of infighting to get back on the gravy train. Huge entertainment.

But anyone who spills the beans will be out. So a few thousand for a tell all memoir would need to be balanced against the chance of an MSP salary for 5 years or more.

Plus, as they have demonstated they are a cult. They look upon themselves as the true believers. Anyone who went public would risk losing friends. I would love to see it but won't hold my breath. After all since 2014 there has been a small cartel running the party without keeping records. Outside that small group the rest may not know too much. The SNP under Sturgeon were a democratic disaster.

All good points but could the fall out from those expecting to be shoe in MSP's getting canned in favour of the dumped MP's be the catalyst for some show and tells ?

Yup. Fair point.

So basically the managed decline that we all said was the reason Swinney got the job.

Presumably there will be a very awkward 3-way fight for position on the lists: you’ll have the existing constituency MSPs who will expect a high position but who weren’t bothered about being pushed down the order last time because their constituency seats were safe, the “priority” candidates who were put at the top of the lists last time out and will presumably expect to be again and the unseated MPs who will also want a high position. It’s going to be an entertaining bloodbath. In saying that, I’d be very surprised if lists like Glasgow didn’t return half to 2/3rds of the SNP candidates selected, given they’re likely to be a reasonably close second to Labour in most of the constituencies. Labour candidates who lose their constituency race are likely to be out though.

Looks like a 2 horse race in the Dunfermline and Dollar constituency in Fife. Labour will probably get my vote.

Realistically, I think the SNP’s only hope is taking seats in the North East from the Tories. They’ll struggle to hold on to anything in the Central Belt and I doubt they’ll be able to gain Tory seats in Dumfries & Galloway or the Borders.

After the way they've treated the oil and gas industry I can't really see the SNP taking seats in the North East from the Tories. I guess you never know though.
