Unfortunately, you are more likely than not to be correct. It really was a lesser of two evils vote this time around. However, (cross posting perhaps!), nature is f***ng up the AGW lie fairly nicely at the moment, so once popularity for it diminishes sufficiently (which I suspect will be helped along by the economic crises) then it should be quietly reduced by Govts who after all care nothing for anything but being in power (in the main).

Actually Labour have proposed that VAT is reduced on the Fuel, which can't be done.
Not the Fuel Duty.
Two ways of looking at this..Not the Fuel Duty.
1) Labour didn't know the EU wouldn't allow this, in which case they have shown them to be incompetent tts
2) They knew full well, but are trying to grab headlines, which shows them to be the aholes they are..

It could snow tomorrow until the new year and the populace will still believe in AGW. Their faith is something that religion should be envious of.
Whilst it is off topic, I know so very few people who even remotely believe in AGW at all, that I think that the majority of the population know full well it's rubbish. They are not as stupid as politicians think they are.Jasandjules said:

The next day on DP They were still banging on about it to a Lib Dem who said it was illegal.

lets all concentrate on the word stabiliser
Stable, steady, constant
Now lets look at todays fuel price
Stupidly high
Now do we want stable fuel prices considering that oil goes up and down in price?
If a fuel price stabiliser comes in trust me they will fk drivers even harder
I'm inclined to agree, they'll wait until they think the price is peaking, then introduce a stabiliser.Stable, steady, constant

I'm quite surprised how we managed to get ourselves in a position where the EU dictates our fuel duty, but I suppose we were denied a referendum by the last government.Nevertheless, why don't we just tell the EU to "F off", so to speak? It's our economy after all.
But then we'd be paying less tax!

Sadly we are now ruled by the EU, our paliment is now no more than a reigonal assembly and that is that.... Nevertheless, why don't we just tell the EU to "F off", so to speak? It's our economy after all.

Its nothing to do with fuel duty, EU only let member states have 3 VAT rates, we already have three, so creating a fourth @ 17.5% isn't possible.Nevertheless, why don't we just tell the EU to "F off", so to speak? It's our economy after all.

Kind of odd really, I can sort of understand it for those who are in the euro, but don't quite get why we should be under this rule..
anyway, labour are just trying to use the same old tactics - as someone pointed out the scheduled duty rise would pretty much wipe out their proposed cut in VAT, but they would of still been crowing about "lowering fuel costs for the public" and all that tripe. wkers.
