trump claimed that was 25,000 people, which Fox News repeated his claim...
Fox News reports that trump's campaign originally put the estimate at 3,500 but upped the number after the event.

100% agree with that prognosis for the UK. The US model of 'see what you can get away with and if anybody queries it just ignore them' is being happily embraced here by those in authority.
Boris was the prime example and an indicator of how far down that road we are already. I know plenty will disagree on here but for me he was the least fit person to have leading the country by a long way.
Boris lost all my respect when he backed Brexit not for any deeply held conviction or even because he thought it would be best for the country but because he, correctly as it turned out, thought it was his quickest rout to PM.

Trump is in it mainly for the ego, he couldn’t care less about the USA, Republicans or even the MAGA faithful. It’s Trump first, last and every point in between.
I'm staggered that you had any respect for Boris in the first place, then decided he'd lost it based on logic.

It suggests you thought he was OK in the first place based on some Logic, which is just bizarre to me; he has never been the choice of the rational, just the choice of the "fk it, he's entertaining" plebiscite.
Might have been better to say I lost what little remaining respect I had. But this is the Trump thread, so will leave it at that.
The Boris that does this just over a month before an election? WTF was he thinking?

Rep. Suzanne Bonamici in a college antisemitism hearing:

"Just a few days ago, a social account of donald trump included an outrageous video with Nazi like language about a 'unified Reich'. Did any of my colleagues on this Committee call that out and ask the candidate that most of them have endorsed for its removal? It baffles me that some people are opposed to antisemitism when it's politically convenient."

New York's Appellate Division has upheld Judge Juan Merchan's decision not to recuse himself from Trump's criminal trial case.

The panel of judges ruled that Trump failed to prove the judge overstepped his authority by denying a defense motion for recusal.

All these hail mary's shows trumps desperation and knowledge he's in trouble. He's willing to throw so much money at trying to get trials cancelled, judges and prosecutors removed...

Castrol for a knave said:
We just had visitors over from the States, highly educated, affable West Coasters. We didn't get into specifics on Biden / Trump, as, like religion, somethings are best left., We did have several conversations, and the take away points were:

  • They don't trust the media, any media. The preferred option is You Tube and Podcasts, esp Joe Rogan. Printed media is seen as left wing and nobody really reads it anyway.
  • They were stunned that we had "impartial" news media, OFCOM and that Fox News fails our legislative requirements (as do RT and News TV)
  • Still stunned that our judiciary is appointed on merit, wholly independent of politics
  • The homeless problem is atrocious. It's reached a point where local politicians just move them on / bus them out. Many are veterans. Nobody seems to give a st and there is no thought of preventative programmes or programmes to deal with the issue at its core, just move 'em on, move 'em on.
  • There is little if any confidence in politicians - the view is they are out for money and power and the idea of bipartisanship died sometime in the mid 90's
  • The system is so broken, and so many people have so little confidence in it, that it is leaving the door open for the populists, who gather up the protest vote. Then there are the voters who just stand to make money and fk the rest of the country.

What I took away, was that decent people are just exhausted with how politics is played out, and desperately want something to break the status quo, be it left or right. This is warning for us, as we seem to be slipping ever deeper into tribalism, patronage and kleptocracy.
I live on the West Coast and see a lot of this however this view does seem more extreme than I see. I would guess from the homeless comment they are Bay area?

I believe Bi Partisanship finished during the Obama era so a little later.

trumpettes are having a total meltdown about trump's tiny crowd last night. They claim the picture was taken at "11:09 AM", 6 hours before the rally started.

They hope you overlook the fact the video was shown at 11:09 PM last night on the 11 o'clock news and that Trump is speakin' and the secret service is clearly deployed around the stage

Yeah, I saw that this morning too. We have more people turn up to our local county fair than that - and the peak attraction is the farm animal show....

hehe

And the Turkeys get the most crowd attendance. And yes, I live in the sticks....

Since we're talking about crowds and venues, let's remember this moment of typical trump brilliance:

WTF? Jeez, I can talk some BS sometimes, but thats word salad of the extreme variety. Wow, how can you say so much, provide so little meaning and at the same time ramp up everything focused around yourself. If this was a conversation with someone directly, the vast majority of people would just walk away. Imagine meeting someone like this at a dinner party or reception?
