We had ours done as a pup and I've never even heard of it being 'controversial' until I read this thread. It's our first dog though so Iv've done a bit of reading this evening and it seems that of the millions of microchipped animals over 15 years, there have been one or two reported cancer cases.
So I think there are more important things to be concerned about.
