For those who don't know the story of Hans Litten (versus Hitler - pre the war) this is a good docu (imo).
Just watched it. Do you agree? If you missed it, it's on I-player lasts 1 hour.

Saw it. And the 'play' last Sunday night (incredible acting by Ian Hart). It gave a tangible sense of the sheer evilness of the Nazis and how they intimidated every aspect of society to achieve their rise to power. Reinforces my humble opinion that WWII was the last 'worthwhile' and necessary war fought by this country.

Litten in fact survived the war, anglicised his name (as was popular among Jews at that time) to Sir Charles Lytton and became "The Phantom" starring in Pink Panther movies until 1983.

Close; but it was actually "Weltschaft" in Starlight Express,

Originally named Weltschaft, but re-branded Ruhrgold in the 1990s, the German contestant is the InterCityExpress. In the original London production, Weltschaft wore grey and green stripes. He raced with Joule in Heat two, but lost to Electra and Pearl. However in Germany he swapped roles with Bobo the French train, so that he wins the 2nd Heat and takes Joule to the final. His character is the German stereotype, he is work-focussed, efficient, single-minded in accomplishing his mission. Weltschaft's grey/green costume was emblazoned with the double headed eagle insignia.

Hans Litten was a supporter of the KPD (Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands). Its paramillitay wing Der Rote Frontkämpferbund (the Red front fighters) was enagaging in more political violence at the time of the Tanzpalast Eden Trial than right wing groups such as the SA.

Standing up to Hitler in 1931 risked nothing more than a good kicking. But then so did standing up to the leaders of the KPD (who also wore uniforms and sanctioned violence). In fact if it was the KPD who came to power, Litten would be remembered as some nasty leftie who engaged in show trials.

To my certain knowledge the German Communist Party did not advocate the wholesale eradication and extermination of entire racial and religious populations numbered in the tens of millions from the face of the Earth.

So my vote stays with the "Hans Litten Was A Very Braved And Courageous Phucker" party.
