Bugger, wanted to watch it, when was it on?
Here you go 4OD is your friendhttp://www.channel4.com/programmes/top-boy/4od#325...
Enjoy!
Watched this with intrerest, mostly based on the good review The Times gave it, and on Ashley Walters being excellent in Bullet Boy (the film).
Decent first episode, some good performances, I like the down-tempo feel, but for a drama of this type one of the things that makes or breaks it is authenticity and that was lacking in too many places and scenes.
They only have four hours (last one is on Thursday) so I wasn't expecting the depth of character development of The Wire, but still, I hope it improves as it promised to be one of the very very few interesting things on TV lately.

This. I was expecting Wire like depth. It seems very well acted and shot but a few obvious cliches being trotted out already. I am not surprised to hear The Wire mentioned. It felt for me like someone has been appreciating The Wire and thought of translating some of the feel of the drug and projects culture to the inner city UK equivalent.
With less than 4 hours screen time they can't get close to the depth of The Wire stories and characters but it looks a good effort.
The big guy helping out the boy with his sick mother? Feels like he is directly inspired by Dennis (Cutty) Wise.

I am evidently in the wrong line of work, because I would certainly have paid closer attention to security.
Will be watching it again this evening - with subtitles. I am evidently turning into my father because I struggled to understand half of what was being said. Ok, so I understand the need to speak 'street', but there is really no excuse for poor enunciation.

Not quite the same is it?
It's interesting to watch Kano's character developing. He seemed (I would be too) squeamish about cutting off Sway's finger. He's then at ease shanking someone and now killing although not intentional someone else. I can see him getting a bit more comfortable with extreme violence and murder as the series progresses.

Yeah.. And Ashley Walters, or Asher D.. He seemed to think it wasn't the right thing to shank the other chap, but now seems to be calling the shots on whats happening.Trying to work out whats going to happen with the younger boy, something has got to happen to him for them to show him so much, not just his mother being mentally ill, something gang related..

Me too. His character is developing quite slowly compared to the others. I'm also curious about what happens to the little girl and her relationship with the other boy. He's clearly in the line for some violence and drama but she's taken a liking to him. I wonder where her loyalties lie over the next couple of episodes. What I liked about last night over the first series is that at a glance it seems to be turning the typical cliches of broken home = drug dealer on its head. Darnell is clearly from a broken home but for the most part seems like a good boy trying to do good in a bad situation. Asher D on the other hand has from the small clips a loving caring mother and a successful brother. Which then begs the question why is he involved in the life that he is?
If it continues like this I'd like to see the series spread over a longer period to give the characters room to grow.
The majority of seems to be filmed on the Aylsebury estates and the other (west) side of Elephant and Castle around Kennington by the looks of it.
With it supposed to be set over Hackney way a tiny gripe is that the skyline views show Big Ben to the left of the London Eye on the horizon which makes that impossible. Small detail though.
I get the impression that the mothers mate (fella from the gym) is going to get involved in a big way when things go south for the kid, seems his character is going to develop into a more key role.
Could be wrong, just throwing it out there.
