Remember the Tory MP who was at a stag do and didn't realise that someone was attending wearing an SS uniform? The one who made a fulsome apology to the Jewish Chronicle? One of CMD's close friends?

Well, he's just been fired. He seems to have forgotten that HE hired the nazi uniform for his friend. Do politicians (no matter what colour tie) have any common sense?

What is it about those who appear to want to dress up in WW2 Nazi regalia? We've had Royalty and, depending upon one's viewpoint, a past senior Motorsport official also so doing.
Just what is going on in their heads?
Why not wear a green beret and associated uniform?, 'cos that kicked Nazi arse, as did other uniforms.
Then, the Conservative Party, one would have thought that there were some sort of standing instructions about behaviour, public and private, written with the help of, if not by, a PR person.
How to bring your Party into disrepute, 101.

The consensus is the Germans had the best looking uniforms, evidently people are just trying to look sharp. Hugo Boss you know!

I'm in this camp. Does it really matter what someone dresses up as at a fancy dress party? If you found out they were a neo-Nazi I could understand why you would want to fire them but what does your choice of fancy dress have to do with your job? I've in the past dressed up as serial killers, does that mean I harbour psychopathic tendencies?

If he didn't realise that this was a huge error of judgement then he shouldn't be part of Government, he's a liability that Cameron doesn't need.

This.

At least Cameron has realised that Nazi memorabilia isn't the best association for a British politician:

Unless it's a meeting at the Elysee Palace pointing out that Chirac said the English were all Germans...

Are you an MP who is supposed to represent the view of your constituency?

I've argued (not too strongly) before that with things like Max Mosley it's none of our business, but I do think it's a little different when it's an MP or someone who is truly in public life because they're only in the position they are in because the public put them there.

The flipside is I do wonder how much of it is trial by media - we all laugh when we see Basil Faulty do the funny walk, would we expect he be sacked if he'd been filmed doing that?

To me, whilst I'm not sure I can explain it in black and white terms, it just fails common sense that you'd want to dress up as a Nazi or go hire a uniform for your friend without some little voice in your head saying "You're an MP, not a great idea son".

The guy may well be an idiot, but when people aren't free to camp it up in a Nazi/SS uniform, you really do have the Nazis in control. Political correctness is now the weapon of choice for destroying people and/or their careers - that should be what worries people. So why wasn't the BBC castigated and fined for producing Allo Allo?

So would you prefer candidate A or B

candidate A is a virgin and has never had sex with anyone ever, has never got drunk , has never been to a party, has never offended anyone has never broken any laws and has never even mildly annoyed anyone

Candidate B has shagged around, puked in the street, been to nightclubs, has offended at least 5 people, has 6points on his license for speeding and has been to a fancy dress party.

In this country the Nazis are considered a figure of fun and stupid enough material for humour on pretty much any occasion. Unfortunately they appear to have upset a lot of cultures in other countries and when working in senior political roles this does need to be taken into account.

If an MP was to buy an 'Allo, 'Allo' DVD boxset would he also be sacked?

Why are there only 2 candidates to choose from? I'd prefer someone with a bit of common sense, who I could rely upon to be discrete and reliable and who wouldn't give the other side easy headlines in a media obsessed world.

He's free to wear what he likes, (not that he did, his friend did) and the Tories are free to sack him. That's freedom, isn't it.

paddy has it right. It's none of our business what Max did, but Max wasn't someone employed to represent us. This guy is a pillock, and his friend must be clinically brain dead if he didn't see a problem of pictures being taken of an MP and a Nazi uniform.
