I would have loved to see the look on his face when he realised.

the skipper sounds like a reckless nutjob with little regard for safety - on his last voyage the yacht sank with multiple deaths yikes

The new member of the crew may not be aware of that little fact. I would love to see the look on his face when he finds that out too.

I would say that was more of a kidnapping than a 'joining'!

Slightly o/t but I wish I'd have applied for the Antartic Exp. after I left the Army (trained as a mechanic). I'd spent lots of time in Norway while serving so was pretty clued up on the environment etc...

Would have been something special to have done it.

Greenland is a nearer excellent alternative (having spent a month there on the ice cap about 10 yrs ago ..awesome scenery and remoteness )

Sounds great - I love the solitude and power of the Artic and also mountains - I was lucky to qualify as a ski instructor while serving (got both Forces and civvy quals in Alpine, Nordic & Ski Touring) - very humbling places.

There's a cruise line plying the Med that he could apply for a job with, if he's into large boats.
