The people in Meriden who have been protesting against Travellers/Gypsies moving on to an area of green belt land and attempting to install roads etc over the weekend are being told later today whether they will be allowed to remain at their protest camp. It is true to say that the traveller occupied land is owned by the travellers but there is no planning granted for residential use. This situation has been going on for some considerable time now and has involved many court cases and judgements and consequent appeals. The next traveller judgement will be on 22nd/23rd March. What I find incredible is that Solihull Council are talking about enforcing removal of the camp that the RAID protesters have erected in a builders yard. The protesters have not cost the taxpayer a penny by doing this, there were no sewers installed, no electricity connections and no green belt disturbance. The decision will be made today. The Council say "We have to be seen to apply the same rules to all" so surely the situation in the field should be dealt with first.

And finally, the statement below absolutely beggars belief. English law in itself is OK, it's the out and out manipulation of it that gets up my nose.

Joseph Jones from the Gypsy Council said: "I don't know many councils that would have allowed them to stay there. If it was to say they're allowed to stay, we'd have to ask why."

Well, the council has now told the protesters that their camp will have to come down by the end of March. I suppose that is to be expected, thats what you get when you wish to stand against destruction of the British countryside. No mention naturally of any further action against the Travellers. Still I suppose it is easier to pounce on the villagers than travellers.
