Jimmy Carr and his (no) tax
Discussion
Oh dear. I've always disliked him. Now it seems that despite lampooning Barclays for its tax schemes, he has one himself.
Hoist by one's own petard, Jimmy. Hypocritical little tosspot.

Lawyers for the comedian have confirmed he is a member of K2, but categorically denied any wrongdoing, saying the scheme had been disclosed to the relevant authorities in line with the law.

Jimmy Carr, who performed at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, is a stand up comedian and is currently best known as the host of Channel 4’s 8 out of 10 Cats.
On the show Ten O'Clock Live he performed a sketch lampooning Barclays over its tax arrangements, and referred to "the world's biggest, most aggressive team of blood-hungry amoral tax lawyers."

The biggest surprise is that comedians like Carr, Millican et al are making £millions a year from touring and television.
Good luck to them, but I was pretty amazed at the estimated earnings of some of them.
DVD royalties and books etc make them a shedload of money. Millions. I believe that Peter Kay makes eight figures, easy.Good luck to them, but I was pretty amazed at the estimated earnings of some of them.

Not that surprising, he sells a few DVDs every christmas. The real hypocrisy is if he was a banker Soovy would be defending him.Good luck to them, but I was pretty amazed at the estimated earnings of some of them.

Really? £20 a ticket (probably more) when they're on tour - 500 people a night absolute minimum = £10k per night takings plus merchandise. Chuck in a few arena shows where there's 10,000 people on the 50-70 date tour and it's big money. Good luck to them, but I was pretty amazed at the estimated earnings of some of them.
Touring costs for a comedian are nothing like that of a band (limtied set, couple of roadies, driver, tour manager, flunkie maybe) so the margins must be pretty good.
ker-fking-ching as i'm sure Jimmy says whenever he sees his accountant...

"Stand Up" is the new "rock and roll".
It cost £30k for him to appear for 30 minutes at our Xmas do last year.Bit of a diva he was too, wouldnt mingle before he went on, demanded the dining room be re-organised into rows of seats in front of the stage before he would perform and refused to mingle afterwards.
Big contrast to Ed Byrne the year before who happily had a few drinks with everyone, signed autographs, posed for photos etc.

Why pick on Jimmy ?
I think because of the fact that he has made a point of lampooning people who avoid paying their full share of tax while doing it himself, probly.Bashing bankers for not paying tax sells DVDs, and makes him vast sums of money, which he then doesn't pay tax on. Hypocrite.

Wasn't thinking of you as much as the way in which his name came out, clearly within the K2 club there will be people earning far more, and paying as little.
Agree the hypocrisy thing is not a good look, but I guess on the 10 o'clock live he just reads the stuff out. (Can't stand that show to much leftie crap from David Mitchell

Do you really believe that every joke told by a comedian represents their own personal views and beliefs and isn't told just to get a laugh?Bashing bankers for not paying tax sells DVDs, and makes him vast sums of money, which he then doesn't pay tax on. Hypocrite.

In a way, yes. Observational humour is usually based on the personal opinions of the person making those observations. Or at least, that is what they would like us, the audience of gullible mugs, to believe.
I've always thought Carr had an temptingly smackable face. This just makes me want to smack it harder.
