Now I realise that as a sexually active male I have no right to make any form of comment on this topic thanks to the censorship of a dedicated cardre who seem to have only their agenda to peddle, not that of those that they purport to support, protect, and speak out for, but...

This is taking things to a whole new level of bulldung.

Jocelyn Anderson if you get smashed out of your tiny little brain you do not deserve to be attacked, raped, mugged or whatever but you sure as hell make yourself an easier target for those would be attackers. Morons like you who, by implication, suggest that drinking yourself into such a state does not increase the chances of you being attacked need to be give a short sharp introduction to the real World before you cause more harm than the good you try to do.

As said this is in no way meant to suggest that people should not be able to get sloshed, nor that if they do so and they are attached it is their own fault, but if you make yourself look an easy target you are more likely to be a victim. Fact of life; be it for sexual, violent or financial motives.

To be honest reading a few of the other reports on this it almost sounds more like Ms Anderson is more concerned that she and her ‘group’ were not consulted about the posters first. She also seems to have totally overlooked that there were two versions of the poster, one with a lady and one with a bloke.

I’ll leave others to discuss the finer points arising from Ms Anderson’s ‘centre’s’ comments that rape and regretful sex should never be discussed in the same breath, particularly as the vast majority of false accusations of rape are as a direct result of regretful sex entered into consensually...

The problem is that unless you very clearly separate the messages that on the one hand, no woman deserves to be raped just because she's drunk/dressed a certain way/whatever, and on the other hand, being drunk/dressing a certain way/whatever elevates the risk, there is a very real risk that some men will, intentionally or otherwise, ignore the former of those two messages and end up arriving with "well, she was asking for it".

I agree that it is one of the many difficult problems with such an emotive subject, almost as difficult as the one about clothing when we are talking about the most base levels of intelligence on both sides of the equation.

The 'issue' I have is that just as we seem to have a Police Force that seems 95% geared around the dealing with the effects of crime, not the prevention of it, we have this ridiculous message that seems to say it's fine to make yourself an easy target for the scum of this World.

With all the wishy washy claptrap we seem to have found ourselves in a position where we can't educate the masses without 498 caveats.

"Don't get so pi$$ed that you make yourself an easy target for attackers" is a message even the hardest of thinking should be able to understand. Yet the professionally offended turn this simple message into a "you are saying that women deserve to be raped if they have 2 sweet sherries of an evening..."

I am sure that they do some sterling work with those who have been the victims of what to me is one of the most heinous of crimes, yet undo all the good messages that work sends out when they make crass comments like this.

When walking alone at night through a rough part of town I would (and do) extend myself to my fullest height, hands out of pockets, and making sure I knew (know) exactly what was going on in my vicinity – common sense I feel with the intent that ner-do-wells would take one look and find another easier looking target. Why is it so hard for these people to see that the posters in question are simply stating the obvious?
