Even as a Scotsman i've never been really convinced about the the arguments for independence, just seems like the answer to every question somehow always returns to north sea oil. well...

Surely that would really screw up any chance of the finances adding up and create some sort of Kuwait type bonanza in the Shetlands.

I hate all the talk of pounds and pence.

If you want self determination, great, but base wanting to be the master of your own destiny on something bigger than how it effects the numbers in your bank account.

It's all a bit tawdry.

It's called being a "grown up".

Really, I never realised that being grown up means handing every decision to accountants.

I'm not with my partner because it will save me money.

I didn't have kids for the child benefit.

I don't run a car, that has no practical value to a family man with two other vehicles, based on its cost per mile.

I don't want Scotland to leave/remain in the union based on the cost of the average Scott to myself.

I don't wish for the UK to amalgamate into the Fedaral State of Europe based on how it will impact our GDP.

Some things are just bigger than the output of an excel spread sheet.
