Is this one of the first of this sort of thing? Seems overly harsh to me but I suppose he was the source of the file rather than just downloading or distributing.

I heard this on the radio on the way home just now, and I must admit my jaw slackened a little when the announcer said he'd been jailed for 33 months.

I think we should have this as standard for anyone using a phone in a cinema

He went down for selling it really, which was pretty dumb. As was using the same username for The Pirate Bay and PlentyOfFish.

When money is involved sentences tend to be higher. I wonder how many convicted of say death by dangerous driving got more time than this?

It isn't that this sentence is harsh, its that other arguably more serious crimes are overly lenient in too many cases.

I was also very surprised by the length of sentence. He bragged about it on Facebook after being arrested though, so may have been setting himself up as an example.

I'd be quite happy to see similar sentences for other types of counterfeiters, there are far worse out there (pharmaceuticals for example) , causing much greater loss and with real risks to the public.

Originally the police weren't going to pursue it but he continued sharing the file after he'd been questioned so only has himself to blame really

Tough titty. He knew what he was doing was wrong & should accept punishment accordingly.

£1.50 x 700,000 downloads- I presume the proceeds will be confiscated?

Ridiculous sentence.

I can glass someone who spills my pint and get less.

I love the justice system.
Riot - no jail time.
Suggest riot on facebook - 24 months.
Fairly serious assault - no jail time.
Steal from shop - no jail time.
Film a film - 33 months.

Totally logical.

£1.50, where you get that from? He wouldn't make anything from downloads.

Something on the news (BBC radio) mentioned a £1.50 charge.

Agree with this.

When you mess with 'the man' you get fked.

This is not justice.
