Policeman in Trouble for Using the Phase "Whiter than White"
Discussion
Officer in the Anti-Corruption squad placed on restricted duties after an allegation of racist language when he talked about the need to be "whiter than white" when it came to their conduct.

There must be more to this story? Surely several people in the Met couldn't be so stupid as to take this common phrase as a racist statement?

Looking up the origin of the term and the use in common parlance.
The phrase appears to have been coined by William Shakespere with a specific line about linen being "a whiter hue than white".
It was also used in a Persil ad campaign during the 20th century again referring to laundry.
Has it ever been used to refer to the colour of somebody's skin? It's all getting a bit ludicrous.

Well it's like the folks getting would up about the Serena Williams cartoon. On BBC Breakfast the other morning, Naga Munchetty nailed it in comment to some arse who was virtuously playing the race card. She commented along the lines that the cartoon pretty much represented what she saw watching the event, i.e. it was representative of what happened and there was no attempt to twist facts and promote a racist agenda.

Baa Baa black sheep!
My Nan ran a private day nursery in Leicester a few years back, New Walk if anyone went there! Baa Baa black sheep!
I lived in the flat above while at Uni and when I was there she received a letter from Leicester City Council and the education authority saying that the words should be changed to "green sheep" along with a few other gems like, had to be called a chalk board and not black board and "coffee with no milk" on the coffee machine.
This was the early 90's, no doubt thought up by 12 white people sitting in the offices and thinking they had done really well.
She ignored them, repeatedly.

A “good egg” is also thought to be discouraged in police ranks because it is deemed to be too closely associated with “egg and spoon”, rhyming slang for a highly offensive racist term.
One real laugh out loud moment for me in the BBC series - The Bodyguard was when the security bod was hassling the MPs, one of whom he had the job of protecting the Home Secretary.
The security guy is white - so white he could probably trace roots back to King Arthur.
One of the MPs didn't like the security guy distracting them and told the other Home Secretary - "can you throw some nuts to your monkey" to which the security bloke bounced back with "I'm mixed race sir".
The look on the MPs face was total shock!
Brilliant.
