Looking at the radiator grill... looks like it has two names.
( or Name + Model...of a manufacturer that may cease to exist.)

NB: I will show Milkyway Sr (93) this when he wakes up.

The font and placement looks like what Austin used to do, I'm not good enough with pre war stuff to be any more helpful though.

Don’t know why... but those solid wheels made me think of it being French.

My initial thought was Rolls Royce due to the wheels, but nothing else on the car fits with that.

Thanks, but I don't think that's it - the horizontal join on the bonnet and the curve from horizontal to vertical on the radiator don't look the same to me

Agreed, also the bottoms of the doors differ.

At a time when cars were still largely coachbuilt I think that it's still a possibility. They did use badging on the grille that looks like the picture.

At first I also thought French, maybe a Berliet. Then I progressed to Arrol-Johnston. Cars all looked the same back then, nothing's changed........
