Just a quick question if anyone can help with this, my car was stolen and recovered within a few days with no damage, I called the police and insurance when I found out… as soon as it was recovered it was straight back to normal, however iv recently tryed to sell the car nearly 9 months on and it’s showing the car as ‘stolen’ on the HPI, there is a little finance outstanding but that’s not the problem, iv had a copy of the HPI which shows stolen.. iv called the insurance (who I’m no longer with) and went to a police station to ask them and been told by both it will stay on there forever and I’ll persistently have trouble selling it and even getting different insurances. Is there anything at all I can do or has anyone been through something similar? It just doesn’t seem fair
They are talking nonsense OP.
I had a very similar situation to yours. The police recovered it within 24hrs with a little damage but nothing significant. After paying the recovery fee I spent around £200 putting it right, and didn't make an insurance claim.
I wished I hadn't told the insurers straight away as the theft 'claim', even though it was zero, did affect my premiums for a couple of years, especially when I bought a camper.
There was no stolen marker on it 6 months later when I sold it.

I have had cars stolen and then had them returned and as I didn’t claim on insurance there was no marker put on the vehicles.
My understanding (maybe wrong) was that the ‘stolen recovered’ marker is put on cars which were recovered but not returned to the orginal owner (as it had already been paid out) so was sold by the insurance company.

So your car was stolen recovered and you don’t like the fact that it’s been recorded as stolen recovered - which is the point of the recording system?
If it's marked as 'Stolen' on HPI, as the OP says, then it's wrong and should be put right. If there's now a system whereby all vehicles that are stolen and recovered, with little or no damage and no claim made, are marked permanently with this, then there should be recourse through the insurer to claim for the subsequent loss of value to the vehicle.
We'll only know exactly how it's marked when we see a copy of the HPI report, which the OP has said they will post.

OP - I really think you're dealing with a problem with the PNC not having had the marker removed, or the HPI database not reflecting its removal.
