£10,000 compensation after her mother left a secure mental hospital, and then commited suicide.

A tragic event, but in my mind one that was difficult to prevent. If this woman truely wanted to commit suicide, NOTHING would have stopped her ultimately.

What is interesting is that she was awarded the money, as she claims this was never about financial gain. Secondly, what is £10,000 going to do? Her mother is not going to come back.

Once again - "free money"

Expect your insurance to rise again next year... rolleyes

I assume the money will be going to a (mental health?) charity:

"Anna Savage, from Norfolk, has made it clear throughout that she did not bring the case to court 'for financial reward'"

£10k... isn't that how much it costs to reincarnate someone these days? Oh, wait, that's right... where there's blame...

Everyday a new story about how their throwing our money away. I'm sure that 10k could go to much better use in the health service.

Surely there was some negligence involved if she was able to simply walk out of a secure mental hospital?

Everyone seems to say this, then the story never goes back to them. I would bet that entire sum that it will not be going to charity.

It would be better not to have been given out in the first place, as that's yet more tax / insurance money we have to stump up mad

I'd say so.

She was detained under the Mental Health Act - if the state decides to take away your freedom (for whatever reason), then they have a responsibilty to look after you.
