Giannasi, after publicity and celeb status like Brunstrom?
Discussion
We'd better all remember this name!
He's after Brunstrom celeb status.
Chief Con Mick GIANNASI, of Gwent Police, said casualties had almost halved over an eight year period due to the use of speed cameras.
And you just knew he would be from the Brunstrom (Mad Mullah of the traffic police Taliban) area, didn't you?
At least his hat is on straight!
Then you get on the same day Cambridgeshire Chief Constable, Julie Spence, saying speeding is "middle class anti-social behaviour".
Oh dear.
Please all resign promptly when the accident figures are next released (if they aren't fixed, like a penalty notice, of course.

As head of the ACPO traffic he has to say what he does, he might even believe it. At this moment statisticians will be looking at ways to impove the accident figures they need. Deaths were quite low before cameras but if you added in "or seriously injured" the figure became a huge shocking figure. So now all they need to do is the same, so recatgorise any cut or bruise in a car and bingo "camera cuts have led to a significant rise in killed or seriously injured people, we need them back".
There are/were to many people making money out of these machines and they will not let them go without a fight. Round one has gone to common sense as councils cut the funding folowing the DOT doing the same. Round two is in progress but Brake and the police are now fighting back getting on TV talking about reductions in deaths, claiming that it was all down to cameras, using their considerable communication skills to manipulate the truth. This is going to be a 15 round fight followed by a rematch before this ends.

I know we all know, but has the media not noticed that the death / injury statistics for our roads have been pretty static, with a small reduction in the last 5 years. Nothing major and statistically the case isnt proven that is going down. In fact evidence shows that it could be more down to situational rather than causal. Still, Gwent Police claim a 41% reduction. Locally to me, Wiltshire has seen a 30% drop and then you have all of the other places.
So if there has been this dramatic drop - where is the increase? Which county / area has seen a massive increase? From what I can see, they are all claiming a drop - which means SOMEONE is lying. I wonder who?
Oh, and Swindon (who turned their cameras off a while now) have seen no increase or detremental change at or around camera sites. Lets see what happens.

As I was writing the last post, BBC Radio 2 news were reporting an 88% increase in "trade" at an Oxfordshire camera that still had film in it after last week's switch off.So if there has been this dramatic drop - where is the increase? Now I wonder why they bothered to report that?

Did they mention the increase in accidents to go along with the nearly 100% increase in speeding, no? Now I wonder why they bothered to report that?

I just had the Oxon radio on in car on the way back home earlier, and they're all spouting about 'vast increase in traffic speed' since the big switch off.
Not a murmur about accidents... how odd?
I got home quick too!
Yes how odd, still shorter journey times is good news. Speed saves (time) and time is life. Not a murmur about accidents... how odd?

That's right. In a 5 days survey they clocked 60-odd motorists breaking the speed limit on one road. An 88% increase on a year ago.Not a murmur about accidents... how odd?

12 motorists per day, braking the limit.
Reassuring to know that this is the worst we have to worry about apparently, if people can devote such efforts for so little benefit.
