London firefighters 'threatened with sack by blog'
Discussion
FFs.. blackmail basically. I hope they stand their ground.
LINK
In March a leaked document put the lie to bosses' claims that the shift changes were not about cutting night cover.
London's entire firefighting force have been told they'll be sacked if they refuse to go along with cuts to night cover.
The capital's 5,000 firefighters were given 90 days' notice on Wednesday night by the London Fire Authority.
So basically, they need stand strong and tell them to fk off.

the BBC said:
The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has said a blog posting by London Fire Brigades' (LFB) commissioner threatens its entire workforce with the sack.
so not exactly a balanced source for the story! Does the BBC just report what anyone else says without trying to find out the facts?

This"The proposals are for firefighters to work four 12-hour shifts a week, two starting at 0800 BST and two at 2000 BST.
The night shift would include a rest period of four hours."
So they're gonna be working pretty much the same or similar shifts to frontline NHS and Police staff who manage it without getting four hour rest periods during nightshifts.
Infact, for a huge number of the NHS staff, they're lucky if they manage to get any breaks during a 12 hour shift while still getting paid less than the firefighters.
Excuse me if I don't feel even slightly sorry for them!

Did you know there's no such word in the dictionary as gullible. It's invented. Honestly, look it up if you don't believe me.LINK

What's the current set up?
The met Police work the same shift pattern I believe? Without the 4 hour rest period...The night shift would include a rest period of four hours."
What's the current set up?

It's a very sad situation that's arisen and IMO is fairly typical of what a union does best; sets out to flex some muscle and serve itself at the expense of everything including the members. The union took them out on strike, granted with the approval of membership, but the majority of fire fighters I know never wanted to be on strike. The result was the union caving in because it couldn't win and a raft of reforms being implemented as a result. I don't think there were any winners in that one.
