Most of the south-eastern USA got hit by some huge tornados yesterday and this morning. 170+ dead and climbing:

Luckily they somehow managed to miss the area of Atlanta that I live in.

Tuscaloosa got a pounding. One mile wide tornado. They said it was heading to Atlanta but it either veered or disbursed prior to hitting. NW Georgia took a hit as well.

Damn Got A friend in Atlanta any news on whether it took a hit?
I don't think Atlanta got too much (if any. branflakes?)

I heard on the radio on the way in to work that North Alabama and NW Georgia are being declared disaster zones (necessary for Federal aid to flow)

These were record-breaking tornadoes in an area not accustomed to such huge versions. A tornado usually stays on the ground for a few undred yards, this one remained down for 150 miles, unheard of! Debris from Tuscaloosa was found in Birmingham, 50 miles away.

I have a friend in Lawrenceville GA, north of ATL and the cell passed to the NW of him. It missed Atlanta.
I'm working in Houston TX and it was stormy as hell on the way in on Weds, but all good here.

It hit the NW tip of the state (Ringold GA - just south of Chattanooga TN). Athens just got rained-on in a pretty big way.
